eXplora Rules This paragraph explains the rules for participating in the eXplora Challenge. Introduction The eXplora Challenge is an Internet-based education contest for teams of learners (students) in secondary school level education or equivalent. Team members are not enrolled in some kind of higher education. eXplora participants practice teamwork and international perspectives. The challenge is to create a website with an educational value and interesting to fellow students. To give the challenge more international value, the website should be created in at least 2 different European languages. One of the chosen languages has to be English, French, German or Spanish. National teams may participate, but international teams will get extra points. The

, http://www.eun.org, and partners and is a non-profit project. Taking part in eXplora To take part in the eXplora Challenge a student must be a member of a team. A team consists of three to six European students in secondary school level education or equivalent and one to three tutors. Team members Team members should ideally come from different European countries. However, students from three different schools/institutions in the same country may also form teams. Each team can have one team member from a non-European country, as long as he or she is enrolled in a form of secondary education. To promote and stimulate international teams, the websites of teams consisting of pupils from different countries will get extra points when evaluated. In the eXplora Challenge, teamwork, communication and cooperation are very important. The website should be created by the whole team, and all student members of the team must make significant contributions to it. Team members must be available for communication with the eXplora staff through a virtual platform and e-mail. Tutors Each eXplora team should have one to three tutors to coach them. A tutor could be a teacher, librarian, parent or relative who is approved by the students� school/institution of education. The tutor must be able to give regular help and tutoring assistance to the students. The tutor must be available for communication with the eXplora staff through a virtual platform and e-mail. Apart from tutors, other people can also help the teams with their website. However, all kinds of help and assistance plus the people who helped must be mentioned on a special 'Thank You' page in the website. While help is allowed, the team members themselves are the ones who should be responsible for the majority of the webpages they create. eXplora projects Registration To participate in the eXplora Contest, teams must register at: http://explora.eun.org/register Registrations will be accepted from March 2002 until the 30th of May 2002. The website has to be submitted before June 3rd 2002, 16.00 Brussels Time zone. Changes in team composition must be reported via e-mail and accepted by the eXplora organisation at info@explora.eun.org The eXplora Project eXplora teams create an educational website that is interesting for fellow students. To make the websites valuable for most European students, it should be created in at least two different European languages. One of the chosen languages has to be English, French, German or Spanish. The other languages can be any European language. The projects will be judged in two different age categories: websites created by teams with teammembers who are younger than 16 on the final date of submission (June 3rd 2002), and websites created by teams who are over 16 at June 3rd 2002. The age of the oldest team member is decisive for the age category in which the website is judged. Every website should contain a special 'About this team' webpage with information about the work process, the project and the team, which will be part of the evaluation process as well. The eXplora Organisation will provide each team with a master for this special 'About�' webpage. Every website should contain a special 'Resources and Copyrights' page, where the team describes what resources are used to create the website and where consents to use of copyrighted materials are presented. Final project�s submission deadline The result of the project, the website, for the eXplora Challenge, must be completed and uploaded on the eXplora web server no later than June 3rd 2002, 16:00 Brussels Time zone. Contents The online resource must offer educational benefits for other students. It must be created and all information published in two languages. One of the chosen languages has to be English, French, German or Spanish. The online resource must be the result of the effort of the team members working together. Legal and ethical issues - All material published on the eXplora server must be treated according to European laws and agreements on copyright. - If copyrighted materials are used, a written statement of the owner of the materials should be available in the website on a special 'Resources and Copyrights' page. If copyrighted materials are used, without a written statement of the owner of the materials, the eXplora Organization can remove the website from the eXplora server. - Projects may not contain statement, fact, information or quotation that may harm or diminish any person or group of people. - Projects may not contain statement, fact, information or quotation that may encourage persecution of people on the grounds of race, opinion, nationality, sex, profession, religion or other persuasion. Nor may projects encourage crime or the breaking of local laws. - Edited interviews and other media that present other people�s ideas or opinions should be presented to the involved people before publication. A written proof of consent should be available on the special 'Resources and Copyrights' page in the eXplora project. - In the eXplora Challenge, it is not allowed to make commercial websites. - It is explicitly forbidden to use eXplora server space for other purposes than participating in eXplora. Disqualification of project - The eXplora jurors or organisation may decide to disqualify a project if it has not been submitted in time, partly or as a whole; the team composition does not comply to the rules or if the project breaks any of the rules under Legal and ethical issues. - If a project contains material that can be considered breaking the rules, the eXplora Organisation and/or jurors may disqualify the project, take away material breaking the rules or withdraw an already given price. - The eXplora organisation always has the rights to disqualify a team or an entry - The eXplora organisation always has the rights to adapt the rules and awards. Notification of changes will be made on the eXplora website. Judging and jurors - The submitted projects will be evaluated according to guidelines decided by the eXplora Organisation and published on the website. Judges will be appointed by the eXplora Organisation. - The result of the judging cannot be appealed. - A judge may not take part in the evaluation of a project if he/she is challengeable. Awards The eXplora Organisation will give awards to qualitative projects that meet the objectives of the project. Special awards will be given to resources that have merit in areas covering intentional issues and intercultural understanding. The best teams will be invited to take part in the four days eXplora Youth University camp in the fall of 2002. Travel expenses (from a European city) and lodgings will be paid by the eXplora Organisation. Other awards will be prizes like digital cameras and Minidisk players. The exact nature of the awards will be described on this website later this year. General Rules Projects submitted to eXplora remain the property of the team. European Schoolnet has full rights to the material, to improve, edit, expand or modify and to make it freely available on the web, CD-ROM or other media from the date of submission until 31st of December 2013. Change of rules European Schoolnet and partners have the right to change these rules. Changes will be announced through e-mail to contact persons and on the eXplora web site and will apply from the date of publishing.
