JNES, a regular Nintendo emulator. There is nothing terribly special about this program, other than the fact that it works very well. It is small, it is simple, it is very user-friendly, and it has Super 2XSai filtering. For those who do not know what Super 2XSai Filtering is, it is a filter that enhances the smoothness of textures. So, the game graphics will look smoother than they would look if you were playing them on the actual NES System. It also has a Game Genie integrated, so you can cheat 'till your heart's content on your favorite Nintendo games.

Quote
"Jnes is a NES emulator for win32 platforms that uses DirectX to provide the ideal experience and system compatibility. It's emulation capabilities include graphics and sound, also emulating quite a few memory mapping boards found in most USA games, and a few popular Japanese ones. It performs well on most computers, only requiring a low end Pentium due to a well coded architecture and emulation cores. It has good compatibility with most games and provides a true NES experience in a user-friendly environment."

ZSNESW, a Super Nintendo emulator. This is the most well put together emulator that I have come across. Even the emulator's look can be customized. You are able to move individual GUI menus around and save their individual positions, you are able to have multiple GUI windows open simultaniously, you can change the color of the menus, you can even place various special effects in the background. These special effects include two different water effects, a snowing effect, and a smoke effect. You can also apply the graphics engines' effects to the emulators interface, so the emulators interface will be enhanced, as well as the game that you are playing. That's a different concept, but very much welcomed. The emulator has a Netplay feature, in which you can challenge your friends over the net. It has a cheat-code system, so you can run through any game with everything you ever wanted. It has a save-state system, so you can start your game exactly in the point in which you saved your state. It has multiple graphics engines that you can choose between, all of which make the games look significantly better than they would normally look without them. This emulator is awesome, simply put. It's customizable and has tons of nifty options to tinker with.

This emulator is not very user-friendly to set up, but when you have it set up it is a very nice emulator. It requires you to download various plugins. It also leaves you to your own wits to find a neccesary official Playstation BIOS file, which is not always easy to find, as most sites are incapable of hosting the file because it's copyrighted by Sony. I cannot comment on alot of the emulator's options because of the fact that the emulator does not come with any default plugins. You must download them on your own choice, and every plugin presents it's own set of different options and capabilities. Thus, alot of the emulator's options depend on what plugins you dowload. However, the emulator has the ability to either run ISO files (ROMS) from your hard drive or play games that you own directly from your CD-Drive. So, you can either play the ROMs or you can play your actual games on your computer. It also has support for multiple-disc games, having an option that allows you to 'switch discs' when needed. It has a cheat system, but it's complicated to use, requiring you to download a special plugin to be able to insert working cheats. It has a netplay feature, that supposedly allows you to play against your friends via the net. It has a save-state feature, allowing you to save your exact position in the game, and continue from exactly the position in which you saved your state, no matter where you were or what you were doing when you saved it. This is one of the more high-quality Playstation emulators that you can find. Once you obtail all of the neccesary plugins, BIOS files, and set it up correctly, I believe you will love it.

I have included a source for plugins neccesary for ePSXe to function, for your convenience. There are quite a few of each class of plugins to choose from. Choose your plugins based on your computer's hardware/software. I have a 1.1GHz machine with a 64MB Nvidia GeForce 4 video card, and everything works fairly well. If you have this or better, it should work fine. I couldn't tell you about anything less than this. It may work well, it may not.
