What sets FRANK BLEVINS AND HIS TAR HEEL RATTLERS
apart from
other rural string bands of the period is the youthful enthusiasm found
in all eight songs
they recorded in 1927. Maybe this is due to the fact that leader Frank Blevins
was only
15 at the time. Blevins played an outstanding fiddle, sang most of the songs,
and he himself organized the recording sessions. Frank Blevins
and His Tar Heel Rattlers'
raw energy and delivery make them the "garage band" of the old time string
bands.
