Dragon's Trap, The Remade Extended Version

Finally Dragon's Trap fans everywhere have a chance to enjoy this brilliant game once again, with extended areas, new places to explore and brand new content to keep the Dragon's Trap fan entertained for weeks.

This game offers all that Dragon's Trap was, with the same basic world design, but is much, much bigger (and harder).

You will notice, that the game feels identical to the original in terms of how your character jumps, runs and attacks, but with improved graphics, as they have been taken from the Dragon's Curse version for the PCEngine, which had better graphics capability than the Sega Master System.

The use of Charm/Magic stones has changed in this version, as players will not be allowed to enter a shop unless they have enough Charm Stones, including an amazing twist at the end ... If all possible Charm Stones are collected, it opens an extended secret ending, which includes an entire new area after the Vampire Dragon and another Dragon to defeat (although you may recognise him). This secret ending is very similar to the ending of Monster Land ... but I better not tell you too much about that.

Graphics: 9.5/10 - The graphics will remind you of a time gone past where every pixel is delicately and thoughtfully placed and is an improvement on the Sega Master System graphics, without taking away any of the feeling or style of the original.

Music: 9.0/10 - The Music comes from a time when synthesizer chips played the game music you listened to, which gave it an original sound that continues to haunt the players from that era. The reason I did not rate the Music higher is because the Japanese FM Synth Chip version is slightly better. However, never fear the music in this version is still brilliant and will bring back all those memories from a gaming era gone past.

Game Play: 9.9/10 - Brilliant, simply brilliant! One of the hardest things to get right in a remake is the feel of the game, and this has been done to perfection. An improvement in the patched version enabled Mouseman's reach to become increased, which brought the game play up to a 9.9/10. You will notice however, that this version is very hard, enabling a new challenge worthy of a long time Monster World fan. Be prepared to forget what you know about the original and embrace a new challenge.

Story Line: 8.0/10 - The story line follows the Dragon's Curse version, which is almost in line with the Master System Version, however, there are no disappointments here, as a classic story is brought back to life.

Developer: 10/10 - The developer known as Vile1011 has done an exceptional job here. Providing fans with a much longed for new Monster World experience.

Overall: 9.3/10 - This is a faithful restoration and extension of a classic game from the golden era of gaming. A definite for any fan to play and pass while we wait for Westone/Sega/Hudson to release a full 3d version of the most awesome game series in history ... Monster World!
