The risk of a volcano is what in the area it is liable to damage. Any area near a volcano can be potentially hazards. Volcanic Gasses , Tephra, Lava Flows , and others are hazards of volcanoes. Scientist study these hazards to make a hazard map which tells where the hazards are. The Development of an emergency plan will hopefully safe more life's in a dangerous volcanic situation. Causes of eruptions!
Volcanoes erupt when then the earths mantle heats up to form a liquid substance called Magma. Magma is lighter then the solid rock that surrounds it, magma is buoyant much like a cork in water, so it rises. As the magma rises some of it collects in Magma chambers, that fuel volcanoes. As the magma rises the pressure increases and the gasses expand. The expansion is what causes the volcanic eruptions. More Info

Signs that an eruption is likely!
Most Volcanoes show some what of a sign when an eruption may happen. Even though explosive eruptions occur with out any warning, signs will follow till the next eruption. Some steam blast eruptions can occur with little to no warning as superheated water flashes turn into steam. Magnetic eruptions have some signs of notice before the eruption happens, the people near the volcano might feel a slight shaking/rumbeling sensation. If you live near a volcano you should always be looking for these signs of eruptions! More Info
