Although eruption can occur without warning, there are usually signs that it will erupt soon. Such things could be new areas of hot ground appearing. But the most common thing of all has go to be steam. Often a volcanoe will pour out steam for a while before it erupts. That's a good sign to leave. There really arent any other things that could warn you, eruptions do often happen without warning.
