Lu Feng Elegance, Class and Evil!

He could do evil with elegant dignity, masked in kindness, or as a gleeful maniac. As a hero, we always waited for the twist, the reversion to type. However he played it, Lu Feng did it flawlessly and with consummate pleasure. And what can't this guy do? As an actor, he can play drama, action and has a underused flair for comedy. With his opera training, Lu, along with Kuo Chui and Chiang Sheng thrilled us with his nimble and powerful acrobatic take on martial arts. Demonstrating skill with all weapons, Lu's particular specialty was with heavy weapons; the spear, quan do and trident. Lu was the supervillain, the one to beat. And often, the heros' were unable to face him alone. Most Venoms films ended with Lu facing multiple opponents by himself. The finale of Avenging Warriors saw him facing Sun Chien, Kuo Chui, Lo Meng, and several others besides. He made sure that they didn't walk away.
SOME OF HIS FINER MOMENTS.... CRIPPLED AVENGERS This was the first Venoms movie that I ever watched, and Lu set the tone of this film. How can you forget the serene, gentle smile as he poked out Kuo Chui's eyes? UNBEATABLE DRAGON He played a heroic strongman in this excellent film. This movie pitted a North Shaolin school vs a South Shaolin school. facing a team of equally noble fighters, Lu's character was deceptively complex. Imagine, Lu Feng flirting....with a girl!! MASKED AVENGERS One of the more kinky and odd of Chang Cheh's offerings, MA gave us a gang of assasins who take perverse pleasure in bloody wine. Lu's character is just creepy here, with his own temple...dedicated to himself of course. Gotta love him. THE RUFFIANS He played a wealthy patron of the martial arts. Bored with his existence as a mere businessman, Lu invites impovershed martial artists to his home to "discuss kung fu." And then he kills them. This film featured excellent quan do work, in fact, Lu won an award for it!. LEGEND OF THE FOX Another "good guy" role, Lu plays the swordsman Hu to Kuo Chui's Miao. The two form and unlikely and tragic friendship while participating in a duel that extended over many days. This was an excellent role reversal for the three Opera Venoms, Chiang Sheng taking the role of the nasty villain, Lu playing a light hearted family man, and Kuo as the stoic, somber Miao Yuen. Oh, he also played some character called "Centipede." I hear its a very popular role. ;)
Today, Lu works and lives in both Taiwan and Mainland China, and works for a Mainland production company. Like Kwok Choy, Lu now spends most of his time behind the camera as a martial arts choreographer. He had a cameo role in the Mandarin soap opera "Judge Hseih's Strange Tales" (approx. translation) playing the Master Monk of the boy monk character. According to a family member, Lu appears much the same as ever, and is rather intrigued to know he still has a fan base for his older work!
