Lost Treasure
The song Lyrics at the begining are from the song
Among the Missing by Kathy Mattea and Michael McDonald.
Without you I'm as cold inside
As The Dark Side of The Moon
When You're Not There My Only Prayer
Is To Pray You Home And Soon
Every Time The Phone Rings
I Think The Worst and Best Things
I'd Give All I Have To Have You Here With Me
But You're Still Among The Missing
And I'm Still Missing You
And I Swear I'm Gonna Find You
If It's The Last Thing That I Do
Tomorrow I May Hold You
Tomorrow I May Not
But God Won't Take That Dream Away
It's The Only One I've Got
Baby It's So Quiet Now
I Can Hear The Darkness Fall
Nothing But This Emptiness
And Your Picture On The Wall
It Could Say A Thousand Words
But Your Smile Is All I've Heard
Just Whisper Once And Tell Me Where You Are
But You're Still Among The Missing
And I'm Still Missing You
And I Swear I'm Gonna Find You
If It's The Last Thing That I Do
Tomorrow I May Hold You
Tomorrow I May Not
But God Won't Take That Dream Away
It's The Only One It's The Only only One I've Got
Tomorrow I May Hold You
Tomorrow I May Not
But God Won't Take That Dream Away
It's The Only One The Only Dream I've Got
Unshed tears swam in the pale blue eyes that stared out into the darkness searching the shadows for the third night in a row. Dried tear stains were on the cheeks where previous tears had slipped down. The face of the Mirkwood King was pale, tired and full of grief and concern. His child, his little Legolas had been taken by a band of wandering humans and it was now the third full day he had gone without knowing if his child was alright. He left the window and stared at the portrait he had had painted of his son.
Ion-nin where are you? You should be safe and sound in your bed, but your not. It is my fault. I shouldve kept up a tighter patrol around the border, then those humans wouldve been driven away immediately. Oh tithen-pen I wish that I could hear your whispers so that I could find you. We will find you though my little prince. Your Ada will find you. King Thranduil spoke softly to the picture as if his child would be able to hear his words. Tears slid silently down the kings face as he spoke.
The sound of horses was too far away for the king to hear at the moment. The soldiers were making their way towards the palace. Beads of sweat dotted their faces and foreheads and cooled as the wind blew against them. The lead soldier leaned forward slightly urging his mount on. He needed to get to the king.
King Thranduil walked into his sons room and looked at the bed. He sat down on the edge of the bed and smoothed his hand over the comforter. There shouldve been the lump of a child where his hand rested with a small blond head resting peacefully on the pillow. Tears filled the kings blue eyes once again as he touched the pillow wishing it was his childs head.
Oh ion what I wouldnt give to hear your laughter right now. To hear the patter of your feet as you raced down the halls even to hear your tutor or one of the guards report to me that youve been up to your usual mischief. Oh pen-neth come home soon. The king spoke in a whisper to the empty room. He was holding back the sobs that were threatening to escape. He felt as if he broke down then he didnt really believe hed see his precious child again. He needed that hope.
A shout rang out and caused the palace to come to life with movement. Servants who had been quietly going about their business and trying to avoid the woeful king were now scurrying about trying to find him. One of the maids happened to look in the young princes room and spied the king. She curtsied and said, Your highness the guards are coming in and your presence is requested.
Bolting up at the words, King Thranduil nodded at the elleth and made his way to the front entrance, hoping that the message was good. He stood watching and waiting, till finally he saw the captain of the guard coming towards him sitting a little oddly. Concern filled Thranduils eyes. Jolvin, whats wrong? Ill get the healers here immediately. He asked turning to motion for the healers to be sent for.
Nay your majesty. Im not injured, but I seem to have gotten a growth on the way back. Could you come and take a look? Jolvin said as he darted his eyes down towards his chest.
The king was about to summon for his healers again when something made him stop and go over to the captain. Tears filled his eyes once again as the captain moved his cloak aside and pulled a golden haired bundle from within. I believe this belongs to you sire. Jolvin said as he placed the elfling in his Adas arms.
Ion-nin. The words were whispered as the king hugged his child to him. He looked up at the captain and nodded. Thank you. His voice was tight with emotion and turned from everyone.
Thranduil walked back to his sons room with his precious bundle. He walked into the bedroom and nudged the door shut with his foot. He sat on the edge of the bed and stared down at the sleeping face of his child. He began to place small soft kisses on Legolas head, forehead, eyebrows, closed eyes, but when he kissed the tip of his childs nose, he smiled as it wrinkled slightly. He watched as Legolas eyes fluttered open and sleep confused blue eyes stared up at him.
Ada? The child questioned trying to wake up.
Aye ion-nin. Ada is here and you are safe. Thranduil replied his voice now thick with emotion. He watched as the realization dawned on his son and wasnt surprised when Legolas bolted awake and flung his arms around the kings neck. Shh my little prince. Its okay. Everything is okay now. He wrapped his arms around the trembling child and held him close as he tried to comfort him. His heart, his treasure, his son was home and safe. The king could want for nothing else, for nothing else mattered.
