11. OTHER ADVANCEMENT
How do I advance?
I'd want to have several avenues to advance. Trainer (exchange money for skill), practice (so long as it was interesting enough that no macro'ing was desired) and field use (go beat on monsters, pick locks, etc). At various stages in the progression, people would be allowed to implement these. Example: Advancing from 50 skill to 70 skill - maybe 5 points can be picked up through practice, 5 through trainer and 10 through actual use. Advancing the final 10 might be hardest through experience but cheaper than using a trainer as points cost more for higher skills. Again, a trade off.
I've been thinking train in it (that moves the potential maximum skill up) then practice the skill (to fulfill that potential).
One important note: We must find a way to allow people to practice crafting skills without the repetitious building of a single item.
Cybernetic implants?
If it is a sci-fi game, absolutely.
Can citizens for example become medics, doctors or nurses?
If you have a hospital building and spend a lot of time at it, sure.
What other ways are there to gain recognition?
Cities that build a 'history hall' (or Hall of Records or some such) will have access to 'The Firsts' lists. These will be lists of various things people have done first along with the game year that they did it. (We will have our game years matter - the year will start at one and go up from there. If the year is 2,334,021 that is all good.) Entries will be made like "Darowitz was the first to circumnavigate the globe in the year 554 after a 200 year journey!", "Edmund was the first to kill a dragon in solo combat in the year 10,001.", "SuxxorU was the first town established in the year 313!", "FreakyBeyotch was the first person exiled to the Prison World in the year 2!", "SomeCallMeTim was the first person to make a ballista in the year 245!" and so on. These are little name recognition things. I'd also like to have it so that titles for these momentous things can be given automatically - leaves my GM's free for more events.
