Ode to Summer

by President Carderius

This short poem was written during the end of the summer of '99, and accurately reflects the heartache that most students go through in such a time. Perhaps this is a good time for yourself to stop and think about your own feelings before you continue. That's better, now enjoy...

Summer, how we love you, your days pass with seemingly no end.
We bask in your sunlight, we revel in your sunny goodness.
Your oceans call to us, the beaches chant our names.
We feel drawn to them, as if by some unknown force.
And your joyous showers, how we will miss letting those rains fall on us, drenching us with good vibrations.
For now, you have been taken from us.
Now we are sealed in the vacuum of this thing they call "school."
The sunny goodness cannot reach this abode, the good vibrations cannot penetrate these walls.
We see your blue skies, still hanging, waiting for our return.
One hundred and eighty days you shall wait, endless hoping for the release of your minions.
How your time has passed fleetingly.
No longer can we bathe in your sunlight, our skin growing increasingly pale.
We are sentenced to doom in this florescent lighted prison, this painstakingly familiar realm.
Summer, how we long for your sunny goodness again...
