Laura Welford

Congratulations to Laura
for qualifying for the national age groups yet again!!
Age: 15
Hobbies and Interests: Swimming is my most
important hobby and I love to compete for my club. I like to complete in swimming galas and enjoy talking
to and meeting other swimmers from various clubs. I like Art and Graphic design which I am studying at school. Going down the gym is fun and also
helps to build my strength up which is obviously useful for swimming. My favourite
TV
programmes are Absolutely fabulous, the Royal family, Red Dwarf and Friends.
I began swimming lessons at the age of 4 and continued swimming by joining Loftus Dolphins ASC. I believe that the coaching is very good and
has definitely helped me with my achievements. I have achieved a great deal of success staring from an early age competing in bronze ability
galas working through to silver and gold. I have also achieved 5 county qualifying times, 13 Northumberland and Durham qualifying times, 5 North
Eastern county qualifying times and two National qualifying times.
Top three best moments in
swimming:
1) Swimming at the National Age group in Coventry for Loftus Dolphins
2) Getting my 50m F/C National qualifying time ate Sheffield
3) Winning the 14/15 years 100m F/C 1999 in the Cleveland county
championships.
Aims
for 2001: For 2001 I aim to work hard in training and basically do my
best for the club. This would personally include making finals in the Cleveland
counties, N+D's and NEC's. I also hope to achieve 50m F/C, 50Bk/S and 100m
F/C national qualifying times for the National Age Groups held in Sheffield
july-August 2001.
Since writing this, Laura has already managed to
achieve two of her goals by qualifying for the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle in the forthcoming
national age group swimming championships in Sheffield. |
