His full name was Ghulam Farid Khan, popularly known as Lala Farid Khan. His Father’s name was Abdul Aziz Khan. He belonged to a famous Kasoori Pathan family “Shamoun Zai”, which was basically a nawab family of Ferozpur (India). He got his education from Atchison College Lahore (Pakistan) and participated in various sports including Tent Pegging, Football and Kabaddi. However throughout it all, his hobby of pigeon keeping always remained the number one passion in his life. This hobby had been in his family for the past 300 years. Khan Sher Nawab Khan, who was the brother of Arbab Muhammad Khan (maternal grandfather) and Hafiz Muhammad Nawaz Khan (grandfather), had no child and adopted him as a son. He told him much about the pigeon keeping but died suddenly when Lala Farid was only ten years old. After this he started living in Kasoor and continued the pigeon’s hobby with his uncles Ghulam Ahmad Khan (popularly known as Lala Ahmad Khan of Kasoor), Lala Qamar Din Khan, Ahmad Nawaz Khan and some other senior pigeon fanciers of Kasoor (Pakistan). Afterwards he shifted to Lahore and dwell nearby the old Anarkali for a long time. In 1998 he moved in Gawalmandi Lahore and there he continued his pigeon’s hobby until he died on February 8th, 2008 and buried in Lahore (Pakistan).
The main pigeon breeds he kept include Bankay, Jurray, Halako, Gas, Ferozpuri, Salaray, Lasani and Nayab. These breeds were inherited from his forefathers and he always kept them in actual shape and form with the distinct qualities.
