Cross City Tunnel
The Cross City Tunnel between Darling Harbour
and Kings Cross links the Western and Eastern Distributors providing a bypass
of the Sydney CBD for east-west through traffic. The project was approved in
October 2001. A consortium, Cross City Motorway, was selected to finance,
construct and operate the tunnel. Total
State expenditure $680M,
opened to traffic in August 2005.

Lane Cove Tunnel (Metroad 2)
The Lane Cove Tunnel links the Gore Hill Freeway
to the M2 Motorway. The $1.1B project is nearing completion with financing
provided through private sector funding and toll collection on the completed
project (as with the Eastern Distributor and Western Sydney Orbital). It is
scheduled to be open to traffic by 2007.

widespread community condemnation of the proposed project and a change in plans

M5 East (Mascot to Beverly Hills)
The $794M 10km eastern extension to the M5
opened on 10 December 2001 and includes Australia's longest road tunnel
(4km).

Construction is underway on the $1.5 billion Westlink M7, formerly known as the long planned Western
Sydney Orbital. The Westlink M7 will be a tolled
motorway linking the M5 at Prestons and the M2 at Baulkham Hills with a full interchange at its junction with
the M4 near Rooty Hill. Construction is being
undertaken by WestLink Motorway Ltd, which is a
consortium that includes major infrastructure construction companies Abigroup and Leighton. The Westlink
M7 is scheduled to be open to traffic by the end of 2006.
