A Turning Night of Stars
A Turning Night of Stars is a group of 5 men from the state of Maine who perform the spoken poetry of the Sufi poet Rumi set to music. We make use of a wide variety of musical traditions to complement the multi-faceted and ever elusive qualities of Rumi's poetry. Our performances were inspired by the performances of Rumi's poetry by poets Robert Bly and Coleman Barks and makes use of versions of Rumi's poetry authored by these two marvelous poets. Current group members are: Lock Kiermaier (spoken vocals), Tom Jamrog (mandolin), Jack Silverio (acoustic guitar), Dave Kirkham (stand-up acoustic bass) and Hank Lunn (dumbek).

Since 1994, A Turning Night of Stars has performed in various venues across Maine including The Maine Festival, The Common Ground Country Fair, The Left Bank Cafe, The Liberty School, Hannibal's Cafe on the Common, Johnson Hall Theater, Belfast Public Library, The Live Poets Society and the Univeristy of Maine at Farmington.  The group has had the most sucess in smaller, more intimate venues though, due to the nature of our performances, the environments at bars and many restaurants have often  not been conducive to a high quality performance.

A Turning Night of Stars is interested in performance possibilities across the state of Maine and would be interested in the possibility of performing in other New England states. Generally speaking, we seek to have our costs covered as compensation.

A Turning Night of Stars has a live CD, "A Constant Conversation" available for purchase. The recording is of a live show at the Liberty School in Blue Hill, Maine and was recorded in April of 2001. The CD can be purchased at a cost of $10 which includes all shipping and handling costs by contacting us through our e-mail address: [email protected]
