So I know the days have been slow lately--lots of midterms, no new stories, but how could I let St. Patrick's day, then most wonderful drunken celebration of my heritage, pass by without an adventure? I'm a youing fun college girl. I'm meant to be spending this day drinking heavily and jigging my way into the hearts of frat boys. Could I let my Irish roots down? Tragically yes...I was out of clean clothes and my comforter decided to joun our pizza party last night, so he really needed a bath too@ But who says laundry day doesn't bring an adventure? In every great NYC comedy at least one episode focuses on love and sex in the sketchy apartment building laundry room, why not an episode in "Caragh's Valdosta Chronicles" from the sketchy Langdale laundry room? Well, this is my life, so we already know this isn't the tale of love and sex amongst the dryers, but a bad sketch comedy scene will still do nicely correct? So Anna and I had loaded our washing machines and were settled down with our respecitve majors idea of math homework (her demonic statistics-which I'm still not how this is a part of nursing but we'll let them have that fantasy- and me with the never balancing balance sheets of accounting) when she noticed the door on one of her machines was popping open. After pressing against it for two minutes, she heard it click locked so she walked away...and watched it pop open again. Foreseeing the image of spewing socks and underwear during the spin cycle to be a problem, she decided to sacrifice another dollar and detergant tablet to transfer the clothes to a working machine. Insert problem number two...the only avalible washer was at the total opposite end of the room. And dripping wet clotheing is a lot heavier than, well, dry clothing. So the two of us dug intothe laundry soup to wring out her tees and socks and transfer them to the new machine. Unfortuanately this took 2 trips and the laundry basket became a holding pen for murnky pre-rinse cycle water, ready to leak onto your feet and drench the floor with each step. Needless to say, this excursion left the dingy laundry room in an even worse state, but it lifted our spirits and allowed for an eventful St. Patrick's day celebration! |
