| Spotsylvania County currently provides fire, rescue, and emergency services through career and volunteer staffing. In September of 1981 the County employed its first fire fighters and in January of 1990 hired it's first Advanced Life Support Providers. Today, the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services employs 70 field and administrative personnel. In an effort to provide the citizens of the community with 24-hour coverage, the County staffs fire companies and rescue stations with career personnel, in staggerred shifts, throughout the county from the hours of 4:40 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Spotsylvania County Department of Rescue, and Emergency Services is managed by the Director of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services, R.C. Eudailey. Under his immediate supervision are the Assistant Director, the Deptuy Fire Marshall, the Emergency Services Captain, the Training Captain, the Apparatus Mechanic, and an Office Mananager. Field operations are directly supervised by three Captains, six Lieutenants, and fourteen Sergeants. The County does not currently have an academy and relies on applicants prior experience and certification for employment. The employment process consist of a written evaluation, a physical ability evaluation, and an interview. In an effort to streamline the fire, rescue and emergency services the County has establishmed a "Fire Commision". The Fire Commision is designed to answer the growing needs of Spotsylvania County. |
