The local walked off their jobs mid-shift for the first time in
1973. This dispute was over foremen
working. By the next morning, roving
pickets had shut down mills all over the NW.
At that time there was no arbitration procedure to settle disputes. Boise Cascade was the first company to
change to arbitration vs. strike in the Western Council of Industrial Workers.
The second major shutdown occurred in 1988. This was an economic Strike.
The Local has honored sympathy strikes two times. The first time came in the late 70’s when
roving pickets from the paper division showed up for five days. In 1997, workers stood out for one week in
support of the BCC Louisiana Strike.
This plant cut from a full production mill to just a green end in
1979. Currently, 58 union members are
employed at this location.
