Current Research

ESRC CASE PhD an ethnographic investigation of the social construction of the impact of flooding in the UK. Completion summer 2004.

The research is based on the accounts of affected residents, local councillors and flood professionals in regional councils and the Environment Agency. The key themes that have emerged are disruption of 'home' as  the experience of flooding,  the role of knowledge in defining the problem  and the role of knowledge communication between the groups.

The research is supported by the ESRC via the
Department of Sociology at the University of Surrey, UK and the Environment Agency's Centre for Options Appraisal and Risk Analysis, UK.

Before completing a MSc in
Environmental Psychology I spent over ten years in commercial advertising & brand research and marketing. The MSc research (2000) explored individuals' psychological coping strategies with persistent flooding in Kent, UK.
