| SONY NOTES - ON-Site : After 30 days work order will be cancelled/expired. - Only 2 lines can by typed into repair description - 2 onsite visits before bringing to depot - 90 Day parts/repair with onsite service _________________________________________________ GVSI - Manufacturing BOM- lists products installed at the factory - Lists the parts that were installed in the unit during production - based on serial # - warranty card= normal computer gets 1 yr warranty - B to B user gets 3 yr warranty. - if it just says "warranty card" then its 1 yr warranty - Parts Scan Data= Lists the serial number of the parts installed in the unit - High Value Material= HDD's, CPU / Low Value= rubber foot, cmos battery - Use part# that has priority 1 / priority 2 means a replacement (ie. panasonic instead of Sony) - Priority Part#2 should only be ordered when the Priority Part#1 is not available - NVIDIA or ATI is high end and Intel PRO Graphics is Low end - If 2 HD's are listed then its RAID - Compatible Part # = Lists the parts that can be supported by the unit (limited to HDD, Optical,etc) - Bezels do not come with optical drive - Recovery Disk Part Number- Lists the part number for the recovery media (when sending HD, send media) ______________________________________________ MISC - BTO= Busisness to Order / CTO=customer to order (consumer) - B to B Calls = Sony Vaio Care Program (Corporate Support-3 yr warranty) - B to B has 48 Hour Turnaround - if you down't own the event then don't close it. - Don't close other people's actions so you can close the event - Retail = Staples - serial number can be read on memory slot DIMM door - ADJUSTING BRIGHTNESS on NOTEBOOKS: - FN + F6 = brightness FN+F5 is dim (if you can't adjust brightness in windows then go to the BIOS setup screen - When burning with Itunes, onboard burning program may not work anymore -_____________________________________________________ Troubleshooting: - No Post=3rd party memory, Dim Display (use external monitor) - swap memory (module fails in 1 slot or 2nd slot? replace both sticks of memory - if 1 module works and both fail then BRIDGE is bad - Videocard Issues=replace motherboard Slow Boot: - If it goes through Sony splash screen then it Posts - if splash screen lags then components are failing - if it fails on memory check then its the motherboard - if it hangs on the HDD check then HD is bad No Boot/No OS found: - OEM installs - F10 at VAIO recovery screen - Custom setting lets you partition drive / RAID options - if F10 does not work then partition is bad and send user NEW HD |
