Loaded Bases Softball Rules
GENERAL LEAGUE RULES
- No alcohol on the field, on the bench, or in the parking areas before, during, or after
the games.
- Every team plays each other once, then league will be divided into two pools - A and B
divisions based on points. In the case of a tie, the team's head to head record will
decide league standings. If a tie still exists, runs for and against, between the
tied teams in all seeding games will decide the order. If a tie still exists, a coin
toss will decide the final finishing order.
- Home team captains in the first game are responsible for picking up the bases and two
game balls from the equipment box. They are to set up the bases on the diamonds.
- Balls stay on diamonds until after the second game, then each team will receive one
each.
- Winning teams of the second games are responsible for returning bases and scoresheets.
BASEBALL RULES
- Any team can use any league rostered player(s) as a pick-up on any night.
- No anticipation: a runner must not leave the base before the batter has made
contact with the ball or the runner will be out.
- Ten players on the field at one time (minimum of three females).
- Every player on the team line-up takes a turn at bat.
- Teams are allowed to bat a maximum of only 3 males in a row, then must be followed by
female (in the first 12 batters).
- Only female batters may bunt.
- No metal or screw cleats.
- Arc on pitched ball must range between 6 and 12 feet.
- Foul on third strike is an automatic out.
- Umpires may remove a player who deliberately runs into a player to dislodge the ball
from his or her glove (multiple offenses will result in a suspension).
- 5 run maximum per inning with the last inning open and to be played out. The umpires
will call last inning.
- If a male is pitched four balls without a strike and a female follows to bat, batter
takes 2nd base and the female has the option of taking first base or taking an at bat.
- A runner will be considered safe if they have one foot on or over the safety line at
home plate.
- No touching home plate (this will result in an automatic out).
- The commitment line is 20' from home plate. Once the line has been passed, the
runner must continue to home plate.
- Mercy Rule: anytime after 5 or more complete innings when opposing team is 15 runs up,
game is over.
- 150' Outfield Line: When a female is up to bat, outfielders must be behind this
line. When contact is made with the ball, they may move in. If an infraction of this
rule is called, the ball is dead, batter is awarded 1st base and all other runners advance
1 base.
- Same sex combinations of pitchers and catchers are permitted.
- All other rules as per Softball Canada
- All players must be over 18.
FORFEIT RULES
- If a team is not ready to play within 10 minutes of scheduled game time, the game shall
be forfeited.
- If both teams are short of players after the ten-minute grace period, neither team will
receive points.
Exception: Games starting at 6:15 p.m.
- Missing league rostered players only may enter the game until the end of the third
inning and will be recorded as an automatic out until they enter the game.
- The team that does not have the missing player(s) by the start of the 4th
inning will forfeit the game.
- In the event both teams have missing players by the start of the 4th inning,
both teams will forfeit the game.
- A game may be played with nine players (minimum of three females) the tenth spot
in the order will be an automatic out.
- A team exceeding six forfeits (three nights) in regular season play will be expelled
from the league. No fees will be refunded.
- Only an umpire can call a game due to weather or lack of players.
LENGTH OF GAME
- A complete game is seven innings with a time limit of 1 hour, 15 minutes from scheduled
game start time.
- No new innings shall start after 1 hour, 5 minutes from scheduled game start time.
- A game will be considered a full game if five complete innings have been played before
the game is called.
- In the case of tied games, points will be divided between teams, as time is limited when
playing doubleheader games. (Playoffs are an exception).
SCORE SHEETS
- Each team will choose their OWN MVP's (male and female) for the year and email those
choices to Grant Larocque August 18th.
- No points will be awarded when a team fails to turn in their score sheet by Friday of
the week of play; NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Score sheets must have the following information to be considered complete: date, both
teams, names and final scores.
RESCHEDULED GAMES
- Grant LaRocque will reschedule games called due to bad weather. You are responsible for
your own umpiring on rescheduled games as well as ball diamonds.
- ONLY in the case of questionable weather - contact Grant Larocque to confirm if a games
has been called. If the game is to be called, it will be done so by 4:00pm that day..
- Rescheduling of games due to lack of players is considered unacceptable grounds to the
Umpire Agreement.
LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
- All teams will be involved in a year-end tournament.
- Home team in the playoff games will be decided by a coin toss.
- Players must play 12 regular season games to be eligible for the playoffs.
CITY PLAYOFFS
- League opening and closing tournaments are now Slo-Pitch National and Provincial
Qualifiers.
- Top team in each division for the season receives a berth to the following year's
National Championships.
- Top 4 teams qualify for Provincial Championship in each division for additional National
Championship berths.
- Rainouts will be the following week.
- Only teams with matching jerseys and numbers will be considered. (Calgary Softball
Rules).
- Each team going must supply a score keeper for three shifts at the City's. Two shifts
will be during the week, and one shift will be during the Saturday games. Score keepers
will not necessarily score their own team's games.
- Only players that are on your official roster will be eligible to play in the City
Championships. (This is checked by City Officials).
PRIZES
- The first place team in regular season play will be awarded a team prize.
- All prize money awarded as credit only, to be applied to that specific team's following
years league fees.
- The prizes are non-transferrable and have no cash value.
- Top three finalists in league championship play will be awarded team prizes.
- Prizes will be given to the Team MVPs, which will be decided by each team.
PROTEST OF A GAME
- The protesting team shall put up a non-refundable deposit of $100 for the protest to be
heard.
- The $100 will be refunded if the protest is successful.
- Protests will not be heard involving the judgment calls of the umpires.
EQUIPMENT BOXES / SCORE SHEET RETURN
- Boxes are located in the alley next to the garage at 123 McKinley Road. The combination
for the lock can be obtained by contacting a league representative.
- This is also the drop-off box for the score sheets.
