Angel Island Trip Planning Information

FERRY:  Ferries leave for Angel Island from several locations in the Bay area, however, the closest ferry is that leaving every hour from Tiberon.  The adult fare is $8.00 (and $1.00 extra for a bike) for a round-trip ticket.  Ferries depart at 10:00 AM, etc.  The last ferry leaves at 5:20 PM.

To confirm availability check:

DIRECTIONS:  Take I-80 west to Hwy 37 (Marineworld exit).  Take Hwy 37 to US 101.  Go south on US 101 toward San Francisco to the Tiburon exit (which says "Mill Valley/Tiburon/E. Blithdale Exit).  Take this exit and cross to the left over Hwy 101 and travel approximately 4 miles to Tiburon.

PARKING:  Parking is $2.00 for all day in the Tiburon City Hall Administration Building parking lot (located on the left side as you enter the downtown Tiburon area).  This lot is about three blocks from the ferry terminal and at 1505 Tiburon Blvd.  The two lots adjacent the ferry are $10.00 for all day parking.  A Bank of America lot is also available in the area for $5.00 per day.

FOOD:  Food can be purchased near the loading dock on Angel Island, however, it is considerably more expensive than bringing your own lunch and drinks.

ANGEL ISLAND WEBSITE: See www.angelisland.org for extensive information about Angel Island.

PICNIC AREA:  The picnic area with lots of tables is near the loading dock.

RENTALS:  Bicycles may be rented (while available) for $10.00 per hour or $30.00 per day.  A tram is available for tours around the seven-mile paved road around the island for $11.50.  Bicycle helmets are required for those under 18 and can be rented for $5.00 per day.  Small lockers are also available for $1.00 per day.

PAVED ROAD:  There is an 8-mile paved road around the island.  Due to the steep grade leading up from the picnic area to this loop, a separate unpaved switch-back trail must be used by bicycle riders to access this road.

VIEWS:  A panoramic view of the Bay area and bridges can be enjoyed as you circle the island.  Also, you can see abandoned military and immigration facilities, wildlife, sailboats, merchant ships, and beaches along your route.

For live camera views on line see:

CLOTHING:  On a sunny day you can find yourself quite uncomfortable with long pants.  If possible wear long shorts and carry a thin jacket in your gear to provide early morning and late afternoon warmth.
