| I'll tell you straight out. This is a poem about love, and it is for people who have no ears. By that I mean people who have no affinity for sound, and in another sense, I mean people who don't like music, which may include people who like music that isn't really music at all. I certainly don't mean to implicate people who were born without ears or who have ears but simply cannot hear. I am not talking about deaf people. Why is this poem about love, you ask. Or maybe you are asking yourself, truly to your credit, rather how is this poem about love. Well, again, that is a very good question. My answer to you is that it is a poem about love because, in my heart of hearts, I love poetry so much that I will stand by a poem no matter how bad it gets, no matter how it disappoints in every way. On second thought, this is not love at all. You were the more deceived. What I didn't mean but should have said from the beginning is that this is a poem about good faith. |
