| Irony 1. Vera means true or faith. It would be considered verbal irony because Vera acts the exact opposite to truth or faith. She tells lies and tells them well. 2. The storys last line is ironic because we would expect her to tell the truth to her family about Frampton. 3. Two other ironic statements: "I hope you don't mind the open window," said Mrs. Sappleton briskly. This sentence is dramatic irony because we know (or other characters know) more than the character saying it. "I hope Vera has been amusing you?" she said. This is also dramatic irony because we know that Vera has been amusing him. 4. The point of view in this story is 3rd person because the narrator uses each person with their point of view and not one character knows everything. 5. Frampton Nuttel: He is described by his sister who says, you will bury yourself down there and not speak to a living soul, and your nerves will be worse than ever from moping. Vera: The story describes her as a very self-possessed young lady of fifteen. |
