Rochfort: |
Hi everybody, thanks for joining me! We're all in this together! |
manolis_varnassinger: |
What is the show Little Men all about and who do you play in the show? |
Rochfort: |
Little Men is a continuation of the characters of the Louisa May Alcott books Little Women and Little Men. The character I play was not in either of those books. But I play a drifter who comes to the Plumfield School and takes a job as the caretaker. The story basically follows what happens to these people as they try to run what for the 1800's is a very progressive and liberal school. Watch the show! |
manolis_varnassinger: |
Are you anything like with the character you play in the show? |
Rochfort: |
I guess that there are parts of me that are very similar to Nick Riley. But I would have to say that Nick is a man with quite a lot more strength of character and moral toughness. Personally, I'm working towards being more like Nick Riley. |
out_of_here76: |
How old are you? |
Rochfort: |
I am 32 years old. |
runningchic85: |
Are you married? |
Rochfort: |
I am not married. And I am currently single. |
C_Verzendaal: |
What's it like being in show business? |
Rochfort: |
Show biz is an excellent way to make a living - when you are working. When you are in between jobs it's a very tough, hard way to lead your life. But if I could go back in time I wouldn't change any of the career decisions that I've made so far. |
C_Verzendaal: |
How did you get into show business? |
Rochfort: |
This is a long answer. I was working in a machine shop when I was around 20 years old. And I decided that the only way I was going to get anywhere was to go out and try and make a long time dream of mine happen. I was in Vancouver. And I had always thought I would like to be an actor. But I figured that the odds were so stacked against me that it could never be a real possibility. So as I said, one day in this machine shop I just decided to go for it, and I walked into a talent agency's office with a handwritten resume, shoulder length greasy hair, and a couple of bad jokes. At first they looked at me like I was crazy, but then one of the agents said we'll send you on a couple of auditions and see what happens. And lucky for me, I was hired from one of those first auditions. And then started working regularly as an actor. |
manolis_varnassinger: |
What would you say was your big break? |
Rochfort: |
I would have to say my first big break was the very first job that I ever got which was a Canadian apple juice commercial. If I hadn't gotten a job from one of those first few auditions, that agent might not have represented me, and conversely I would have had to go back to working as a laborer in steel shops. |
jace_33064: |
How do you pronounce your last name? |
Rochfort: |
Just the way it's spelled - Roch (like watch) - fort (like a fort). |
out_of_here76: |
Did you like being on 90210? (Which is the greatest show ever) |
Rochfort: |
Yes I did. The actors were very nice. And the crew and the entire production seemed to work really well, like a family that has been doing it, as they have been, for quite a few years. And I guess I would have to say that right? — since it's the greatest show ever! |
manolis_varnassinger: |
Would you ever return to 90210? |
Rochfort: |
Definitely, I would. As I said, I had a very good time working on the show. But the character that I played had been diagnosed with AIDS and I'm not sure whether or not he would still be living. And not because he was diagnosed with AIDS, but because he contracted it through intravenous drug use. And I was playing him as the sort of person who would have taken his life by a drug overdose at least by now. |
Mocha182: |
What were your high school years like? |
Rochfort: |
I went to two different high schools. And I was never very popular or had too many friends. But at the second high school I attended I did a couple of school plays and magically I seemed to become much more popular with everyone, from the jocks to the hoods, to the smart kids. |
Christian_gurl99: |
You're a great actor thanx for chatting with us here and at PAX. What's your favorite sport and sports team? Thanx a bunch and Little Men rules! |
Rochfort: |
My favorite sports are rock climbing and sailing. Unfortunately there are no teams that engage in these sports. So I really don't have a favorite sports team. Although making my home in California, I am partial to the Anaheim Angels, formerly the California Angels. |
ceedee_2000: |
Who influenced you the most when you were a kid? |
Rochfort: |
My older sister's boyfriend who eventually became my brother in law, Bud Williams. |
out_of_here76: |
What was your greatest accomplishment? |
Rochfort: |
I guess the thing that I am most proud of isn't something that I've done myself as much as my dog Max. When I found him, he was very sick and two different veterinarians suggested that he be put down. But I believed that he could pull through, and he did. And he's my best friend in the world. And I am so proud of him for not checking out on me. |
MobbsDe: |
How's Max doing? |
Rochfort: |
Max is doing very well. If you tune into the Holloween episode, you'll be able to see him defending the Plumfield gang from… |
laurens1237: |
I was at the PAX chat for you a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering what breed Max is? He looks to be part collie. |
Rochfort: |
You're absolutely right. Because Max is a stray, I can't be certain of his lineage, but he looks to me as he looked to you like a border collie mix. |
klest3058: |
Who is your best friend from the world of actors? |
Rochfort: |
As I've said in an earlier chat, it would have to be Max. But I have another very good friend and his name is Rudolf Martin. And he's filming a television show of his own in Vancouver, BC. |
silvercouch95: |
How did you get the part on Little Men? |
Rochfort: |
I met with the producers after having read what I thought was a great pilot episode. We hit it off and they hired me. |
Christian_gurl99: |
Do you plan on watching the second season premier tonight? |
Rochfort: |
Unfortunately, I'm in Los Angeles right now. In the middle of doing many interviews and other press related events, so I don't think I'll be able to watch the premiere episode when it airs tonight. However, I hope to catch it later on videotape. |
davidp02780: |
I know you can't tell us the new stories, but can you tell us hints! |
Rochfort: |
The only hint that I can give you is this. If the stories seemed a bit children oriented last year, I think you'll find that this year, they'll be a little more adult oriented. |
sarahbabe01: |
Do you ever crack up laughing while taping love scenes in LM? |
Rochfort: |
Yes, all the time. |
sarahbabe01: |
What is your favorite episode this season? |
Rochfort: |
My favorite episode this season I think will be shown fourth in order, and without telling you the story, it concerns a lion. |
kellerman83: |
How has success changed you? |
Rochfort: |
Success has not changed me at all, I don't think. The only thing that has changed for me is the acquisition of a nicer motorcycle. |
TV Guide: |
How has success changed Max? |
Rochfort: |
Max, however, requires a rubdown every night. He refuses to ride in the same vehicle on the way to work with me now. Now he only speaks to me through his agent. |
Wendilyn_1979: |
What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in becoming an actor? |
Rochfort: |
My lack of self-confidence. |
laurens1237: |
What is your idea of the perfect date? |
Rochfort: |
To take my dog and my date, get into my four wheel drive, and drive deep into the heart of Baja, Mexico to a beautiful sandy beach I know of. And spending 3 or 4 days there, watching the dolphins and taking in the sun. |
klest3058: |
How did you get on Acapulco Heat? |
Rochfort: |
I was working as an electrician at Raleigh Television Studios in California, when I heard about the part of Brett on Acapulco Heat. My manager got me an audition and then I had a callback. And then they said that they thought I was too young and wouldn't work for the role. So I refused to give up. And on the television sound stage that I worked, my friends and I put together a short video of myself talking to the camera as if it were the producers, and telling them why they needed to hire me. Two days after I sent them the tape, they called me in to screen test. And after that they hired me. |
lady_64_1999: |
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? |
Rochfort: |
I hope to be doing either supporting roles or lead roles in quality films. Whether they be independent or produced by a major studio. The important thing for me is that they be a certain level of quality. |
ceedee_2000: |
What is your next major project? |
Rochfort: |
As of right now, Little Men is keeping me very busy so I have no immediate plans for any other acting jobs. However, Max and I are planning to go to Thailand for a month over Christmas and New Years. |
laurens1237: |
What was your most favorite role you have played thus far? |
Rochfort: |
My favorite role that I have played thus far was the role of Serge Stubin in Nicky Silvers' The Food Chain. Which I did Off Broadway in New York City. |
Christian_gurl99: |
I know it's far off, but what do you think about LM having a third season? |
Rochfort: |
I think that the odds of Little Men being renewed for a third season are pretty high. But ultimately, whether Little Men continues on or not, is up to you, the fans. Hollywood is based on numbers, and the higher the numbers are for people watching and writing into the show are, the greater the chances of a show being renewed. |
TV Guide: |
Spencer, thanks for joining us tonight. We wish you the best of luck with Little Men and hope you can come back and chat with us again. |
Rochfort: |
Thanks everyone for talking today. It's been a lot of fun. And I hope to hear from you again soon! Thanks! |
