Baby Lauren's Progress Notes:            Page 26 (Written by her Daddy from observations during his visits to the NICU)
01/06/02 11:45PM:
Lauren weighed 4 lbs, 4.8 oz today. She is still getting intravenous feedings but they increased her bottle feedings to 48 cc's every four hours -  she still sucks them down rapidly. The final results of the blood cultures have positively identified the bacteria as
coagulase negative Staphylococcus aureus, not as bad as MRSA but still pretty bad bugs. She is currently on Vancomycin (a very strong antibiotic) every eight hours and hopefully that will take care of the infection.
01/07/02 10:30PM:
Lauren's feedings have been increased to 50 cc's every four hours, and her weight today was 4lbs, 5 oz. She continues to look good and eats and sleeps well. The plan is still to take her back to the OR to reverse the iliostomy January 16th....
01/08/02 11:00PM:
They have stopped the intravenous feedings and have increased Lauren's bottle feedings to an "ad lib" basis - meaning they will feed her as much as she will suck down during her ffedings - as much as 60 to 70 cc's !!! They left the IV in her scalp vein just in case they need to give her IV fluids. Tonight she weighed 4 lbs, 3.7 oz.
01/09/02 11:45PM:
Lauren's slight drop in weight yesterday was of concern to the neonatologist, so she was put back on intravenous feedings and her bottle feedings were limited to 50 cc's every four hours. She is still on the antibiotics and continues to look healthy and pink. We are hopeful that she will be ready for surgery the 16th so that she can finally start using her entire G.I. tract... Daddy is looking forward to changing some "poopy diapers."
01/10/02 11:30PM:
Lauren's condition continues to be stable, and she is active and alert. Her weight yesterday was up to 4 lbs, 4 oz again. She had not been weighed tonight as of the time of the update, but she hopefully gained some more... Dr. Bufo informed Mommy that Lauren's surgery is scheduled for 9AM on January 16th... Please pray for good results...
01/11/02 11:00PM:
Baby Lauren weighed 4 lbs, 5 oz last night, and tonight she is up to 4 lbs, 5.8 oz. She is still on the bottle feeds at 50 cc's every four hours, and her intravenous feedings are still on a low rate. She isn't showing any signs of infection and does not look sickly. I think the IV antibiotics are working...
01/12/02 10:00PM:
Baby Lauren is up to 4 lbs, 7.6 oz today. Her bottle feeds were increased to 55 cc's every four hours, and she is tolerating the increased volumes without any problems. It looks as though everything is "go" for the surgery the 16th...
01/13/02 11:00PM:
Baby Lauren's weight is up to 4 lbs, 8.2 oz, and today they discontinued the intravenous feedings and the IV antibiotics. Her bottle feeds were increased to 55-60 cc's every four hours. She is taking the entire 60 cc's every time, and she gets very sleepy after eating...
01/14/02 11:45PM:
Lauren was very alert and active during Daddy's visit tonight before work. She drank the 60 cc's in less than 10 minutes, and instead of going right to sleep she looked around at everything and was particularly intrigued by a painting on her room's wall. It has lots of colors and she just would not stop staring at it. She also "talked" to Daddy for a long time while he held her. She's looking healthy and strong and says that she's looking forward to going home with Mommy and Daddy and Big Brother Preston...
01/15/02 7:45AM:
Lauren weighed 4 lbs, 7.4 oz last night. Hopefully she will gain weight without problems once her surgery is done. Everything is still on for tomorrow's field trip to the OR. This morning's blood work showed that her red blood cells are a little low, so they are going to to transfuse her with one unit of blood before the surgery. God, watch over our angel...
