| You can help Baby Lauren by giving her what her parents cannot: Blood, The Gift of Life |
|||||||||||||||
| Due to Baby Lauren's critical status it is necessary to draw blood from her several times a day. This is done in order to closely monitor her body's vital functions. Although the amounts taken are very small, her blood marrow just can't make blood cells fast enought to keep up with the blood draws. We have been informed that she will need blood transfusions in order to survive. | |||||||||||||||
| Mommy and Daddy are not allowed to donate blood to her!!! | |||||||||||||||
| Lauren can receive blood types A+, A-, O+, and O- Any blood she receives, however, must be CMV negative. CMV (Cyto Megalo Virus) is a virus that is carried by a majority of the population. It does not affect us as adults and we do not know we carry it unless we are tested for it. Because Lauren (and all severely premature infants) does not yet have an immune system, CMV could be very detrimental to her health. Anyone donating blood to her will be screened for CMV as well as a variety of other factors. Only 3 or 4 out of 100 will be eligible to donate. If you are willing to give her your gift, please go to: The South Florida Blood Bank 933 45th Street (just west of St. Mary's Hospital) 561-845-2323 Inform them that you want to make a DIRECTED DONATION to BABY GIRL BOYLER at ST. MARY'S NICU. |

| If you know that you are CMV negative and are willing to donate, please contact us so that we can set up a pool of eligible donors that can donate on short notice. | |||||||||||||||
| To give blood you must be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, not have donated blood in the last 56 days or donated double red cell in the last 112 days. There is no upper age limit. You may not give blood if you have received notification from the American Red Cross or any other blood collection organization asking you not to do so. | |||||||||||||||
