To Big Bird...may he fly forever in the Sky.
We all remember the friend we had known as Big Bird. He was an amazing creature, that we all loved, and thats why were here today, to show our appreciation for his memory. Our tall, yellow, feathery friend is gone from us now, after a tragic accident involving a tracker trailer truck and a driver who avoided the bird crossing sign. The Purdue Chicken Company has thanked us for our contribution, and in turn has paid for this lovely memorial. But I dont want my speech to focus on the negative things, only the positive, which Big Bird was filled with. Big Bird was our friend. Think about how many children smiled when in the presence of him. How about the number of us who looked forward to our whole day, just because we were fortunate enough to see him, on his little corner of Sesame Street. Without his love for learning, many of us would have not learned the things that we need in life to survive. For example, our colors. I loved the color yellow, it was my favorite color all though my childhood, and even still today, just because thats the color of Big Birds feathers. Big Bird also introduced me to several of his friends, like the Count, who in turn helped me learn how to count, 1, 2, 3 and also my ABCs. Big Bird also helped me learn about the world. He went to China and Japan and when he got back I was able to see his tapes of it, and thats when I fell in love with Asia and now in the fall Im taking Japanese because I want to go to Japan. All thanks to Big Bird. Big Bird is survived by many friends; they are all so close that they have become the dream family that everyone wants. I think the guy that will miss him most is his very best friend, Snuffalupagus, but we will all help him get through this tragic time. Big Bird is also survived by his friends Burt and Ernie, The Count, Grover, Oscar, Cookie Monster, Elmo and Telly. Also the people that have helped so much by keeping Big Bird in line all these years, Bob, Maria, Rosa, and Gordon and Gloria will miss him dearly. Big Bird, whether we know it or not, has been one of our best friends that weve had during one time in our life. We visited and played with him everyday, hes taught us so much, I know that he will be seriously misses in all our hearts.
Side Note! Big Bird isn't dead. I wrote this speech in Johnstone's class a few hours before Katie's spcom 100A class where we had to give our final speeches. I dont' know why i killed him, I just thought of it, like a light bulb moment.
