Automatics/SAW Assualt

Good practices
Sorry, but this section is a little lacking... As you can see, my expertise lie in sniping, although I also think that assaulting is a less easy topic to lay rules down for. Anyhow, even for you non-snipers, you should read the sniper section in order to understand how good snipers behave and hopefully understand how to frustrate enemy snipers. Some good rules of thumb:
1) You should always close the distance between you and your enemy, because the SAW is at maximum effectiveness at close range.
2) In a deathmatch always strafe like mad.
3) Unload your entire clip if needed, because running out of ammo before you die is truly a rare occurance.
4) On bumpy, vertical terrain, if you get into a deathmatch try to stay lower than the other guy, because firing up at a person whose backdrop is the sky is much easier than firing down at a person whose backdrop is land.
Bullet Spreading
You want to make your bullet spreads as thick/dense as possible. That means don't fire your shots in a wide arc. You need to concentrate your fire and move your gun only slightly when trying to hit someone. In other words, don't rake a wide area with fire, focus your fire by "raking" only a small area. Even in close combat, you need to lead your opponent slightly, which makes raking a small area effective. The best way to fight when using a SAW in close combat is letting the other guy run into your continuous stream of bullets.

I apologize for the fact that I'm neglecting this section, but you really should have a good handle on deathmatching if you want to be good on assault. Strafing, walking backwards, firing while running backwards, all the virtues of a good Quake player. You should have a good Quake or other deathmatching background if you really want to be a good assault player. I feel as if I'm just reiterating the really obvious even when in the above paragraphs, so I'm going to stop now.
