Welcome Teachers! Although every effort has been made to assure that the web sites used in this web quest are suitable for elementary students, please check out the general resources before you begin to make sure each site is still active and appropriate for your students.

There are four parts to the project. Each group will be responsible for one part of the project.
Step 1 - Choosing a New Animal for the Riverbanks Zoo. This should be a collaborative effort. All groups should take part in choosing the new addition. Students will first need to learn about the Riverbanks Zoo, Columbia, South Carolina. A visit to their web site is a first step. http://www.riverbanks.org/ An actual field trip to the zoo would also be beneficial.

Step 2 - 4 groups of students assume responsibility for one part of the project: Each of the group's tasks are detailed in the roles of 1.zoologist, 2.habitat specialist, 3.tour guide, and 4.caretaker.
1. Zoologists -Creating a display in front of habitat including food web, endangered status, etc.
2. Habitat Specialists -Creating a model of the animal's zoo habitat
3. Tour Guides - Developing a script for tour guide about the animal
4. Caretakers - Preparing a notebook for the animal's caretaker
