Dr. Cassell C. Tucker

Dr. Tucker had taken an active part in Putnam County affairs since he returned to Greencastle to become associated with his father, the late Dr. W.W. Tucker in the practice of medicine. He came directly from his service in World War I, where he served as a captain in the Medical Corps, and with distinction. He graduated from the Harvard Medical School in 1915 and following two years of interneship in Boston, Mass., hospital he entered the Military service in the first World War, going over-seas with an American unit and was attached to the British forces. It was while serving with the British that he was awarded a personal decoration from King George of England, the British Military Cross for gallantry in action. He was awarded the medal at Buckinham Palace, London.

He served overseas from August 9, 1917 to April 25, 1919. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received April 26, 1918 at Swan Chateau in the Battle of the Lys.

Dr. Tucker was born in Little York Ind, and reared in Greencastle, Indiana. He was educated in the city schools and in DePauw Univ. from which he graduated with the class of 1911. While in DePauw he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Following the formation of the American Legion, he took a very active interest in the formation of the Putnam County Post 58. He was awarded a 25 year service pin.

Dr. Tucker was a member of the Gobin Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge, and VP and a director in the First Citizens Bank and Trust Co. He was a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge and of the Shrine.

Dr. Tucker was civic minded and throughout the Quarter century of his splendid work in the community, he found time to do things for the community and for its citizens. Among these was the service he preformed on the consoidated city school board, during the time of the building of some of the main educational units in Greencastle.
