Coneheads About this NewsletterI started this Web site on Friday-the-13th, one week ago. The site is minimal but it is a start. I wanted something tangible before a two-week hiatus. I left with my wife and little Yorkshire Terrier on a short vacation to Florida hours later. During the drive, I thought how I could keep this site alive between interesting Mauget discoveries. Web sites are often like a brochure, but theyre easily changed. People expect a good site to change often, or they will quit visiting. I decided to periodically provide a kind of "News from Lake Woebegon" newsletter to keep the site alive between major changes. This is the first installment.Genesis of the Mauget Web SiteI have an old email address that I infrequently use. It became polluted by spammers. One day, about a month ago, I checked it. It was full of junk mail. I was deleting the stuff when I saw the name, "Neoma" flash past. Thats my cousin. I only met her once at my fathers funeral. She knew my father after I went into the world to seek my fortune. I knew her father before I left. They were brothers. We didnt know each other because she wasnt born when I was around her father my uncle. Her father was Jules Mauget. Mine was Louis (Red) Mauget. Neoma found my email address in a Web search engine. She was wishing my family Happy New Year! I didnt read the note until late February! I answered her email. We held daily email exchanges about the Mauget family. I proposed a Web site to try to consolidate some of the information and to provide an input point to draw in more Maugets. Within two weeks, I was to leave town for a weeks vacation followed by a weeklong business trip to San Francisco. I figured Id better get something out on the Web or Neoma would lose faith. I put the page onto the Web the day I left. Within hours, I was in email communication with another cousin, Steven that Id only met once, when he was very small. Now hes a PhD an expert on El Nino! GeneologyNeoma has given me information that I will work into the site in the coming weeks. Ill start compiling genealogical data as soon as I get software and more information. I already have software that will cast data from a popular package into HTML for the Web. Lighthouses and FloridaI can report that a least one Mauget has been atop three lighthouses in the past year. I climbed the St. Simons light in Georgia and the Florida Ponce Inlet tower last week. I re-visited the St. Augustine light. I climbed that one last year. If I had my own lighthouse, Id be in fair physical shape. There is a Paul Mauget listed in Inverness Florida. I drove past the Inverness exit on I75 two days ago. I kept driving, not wanting to scare him. Does anybody know him? CloseThere are stories to be told. How do nightriders, and a poisoned well grab you? More later. Thats it for this installment. Im off to a Java conference in San Francisco. My father and Neomas were in that city in World War II together. Contact me if you have questions or input.
