Located near Colorado Springs, CO. the majestic 14,110 foot (4301 meter) Pikes Peak, one of 54 mountains in the state over 14,000 feet in elevation, was named after early southwestern explorer Zebulon Pike. Due to it's natural beauty the Pikes Peak region has attracted many travelers. In the summer of 1893 Katharine Lee Bates, a professor of English at Wellesley College, took a carriage trip to the summit. It was from this experience of seeing the incredible views that inspired her to write the lyrics to the beloved song, "America the Beautiful". This magnificent and beautifully framed depiction captures on canvas the essence of what Ms. Bates and countless others have experienced in the presence of this spectacular peak.
From the scenic Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway and the "Pikes Peak Hill Climb" (second oldest auto race in America) to hiking the beautiful Barr Trail, Pikes Peak has always been a magnet for sightseers.
