                                               NATURAL EVENTS CALENDAR
May 11th.  Blackberry winter; a cold spell may occur; freezing blackberry blooms.
May 12th.  Black locus trees are in bloom.
May 13th.  Carpenter bees lay their eggs in wood.
May 14th.  Cockoos (rain crows) return this week to nest.  Fawns are born through late June.
May 15th.  Watch for lightning bugs on warm evenings.
May 16th.  Wild strawberries ripen in grasslands.  Purple finches leave.
May 17th.  Opossum young begin emerging from the female's pouch.
May 18th.  Stinging nettle is tall enough to sting; jewelweed is big enough to relieve the burn.
May 19th.  Serviceberry fruits ripen.
May 20th.  Chigger season begins, continues through September.
May 21st.  Green sunfish and blegill begin nesting  Antlers begin to grow on white-tailed deer bucks.
May 22nd.  Eastern bluebirds begin second nesting this week.
May 23rd.  Young beavers emerge from lodges.
May 24th.  Listen for gray treefrog chorus.
May 25th.  MEMORIAL DAY  Coneflowers and tickseed coreopsis blooming on prairies and roadsides.
May 26th.  The large yellow flowers of Missouri primrose bloom on Ozark glades.
May 27th.  Coyote pups begin emerging from dens.
May 28th.  Young woodchucks (groundhogs) leave dens.
May 29th.  Young bald eagles begin fledging.
May 30th.  Bird song at daybreak is at its peak.
Raccoons den up during bad weather.
Listen for Hoo, hoo-hoo, hoo-hoo
Gray squirrels bread through February.
Kukal's pet skunk, Peppi will hybernate most of the winter.  Kukal doesn't have Peppi anymore.  He gave her away to an animal farm.

Peak numbers of bald eagles gather near open water and big rivers.
We have a video of this fox and fawn.  Just ask and you will be able to see a part of their play,  At least I think it was play.
Yes a bobcat came to visit at least a couple of times.  Didn't score but sure gave a squirel a run for his money.  Bobcats bread through March.
The current fox litter is looking good. 
The raccoon is moving her litter to above the front deck of the lodge.
This is the bluff that we refer to as the cave.  That is Kirk Sizemore on his way down and Corbin and buddy on top.  This is located just west of Eagle Rock Bridge before the left turn to Holliday Island. 
Missouri boaters are warned to check for Zebra mussels  They are very distructive to fish population and can clog water intakes of boats and city water supplies.  They are transfered on the bottom of boats coming from lakes where they have been found.  They have been found in Lake Tanacoma.
