Randall Perkins
The Randall Perkins name has been synonymous with the Alfa Romeo product in Australia for the past 25 years with numerous success at club motor racing as well as National and International levels. The Randall Perkins partnernership comprising of Stuart Randall & Steve Perkins has an enviable reputation of not only providing technical expertise in tuning and servicing but also providing reliable race proven performance products and modifications as well as solving problems associated with the Alfa Romeo products.
Stuart Randall has a long involvement in Australias motor racing history. His earlier involvement included preparation of open wheelers in the 60s with the Alec Mildren Racing Team. Notable drivers who drove for Alec Mildren during that era includes such names such as Frank Gardner, Kevin Bartlett. Amongst the type of cars that Stuart prepared were Cooper Climaxes ,the Mildren Waggott , 1.5 litre 12 cylinder Maserati powered Mildren .. and even building a copy of a Lotus 23 . It was during this period that Stuart started his long association with the Alfa Romeo product having pre-delivered the first Alfa Romeo imported into Australia by Alec Mildren. One of the most notable achievements was preparing the Sandown 6 Hour winning Guilia Super TI driven by Roberto Businelli beating such notables such as Allan Moffat in a Mk.1 Lotus Cortina. This was pre-Autodelta days with the car sourced from an Italian tuning firm by the name of Conrero .Later he was involved with the preparation of the Alec Mildren Alfa Romeo 1600 GTA. Other well known Alfas from the Alec Mildren period included a Zagato TZ2, the original aluminium bodied prototype TZ2(all subsequent Autodelta TZ2s were fibre-glass bodied), the 2.5 liter Alfa Romeo powered Brabham and the open wheeler affectionately known as the Yellow Submarine and others such as the 1300 GTA .

During the 70s both Stuart and Steve were involved in preparing cars from the Brian Foley stable as well as the Alfa Romeo Dealers Team with local drivers such as John French, Fred Gibson, Christine Gibson(nee Cole) & Sue Ransom. This almost culminated in Christine Gibson winning the Australian Touring Car Championship .

During the Brian Foley era Stuart was involved with the development of various Alfa engine configurations. Some of the lesser known engines included a 1910cc narrow angle GTAm engine, a supercharged GTA engine which was placed in the ex John French GTA lightweight, and even inserting a ex-Autodelta 2.5cc V8 into one of the GTAs. Highlights of this era included a 2 Litre class win in 1974 with a 105 series(No. 58 car) 2 Litre GTV driven by LeMans winner Derek Bell co-piloted by Gary Leggatt. Even Carlo Chiti, otherwise known as EL Supremo (Head of Alfa Romeos sporting arm known as Autodelta) was surprised at a Amaroo test session where one of the Foley cars was being tested. When asked what the engines were reving to, Stuart told Chiti 8000 rpm. Chiti was shaking his head adamant that 6500rpm was the maximum for a standard specification type engine or it goes poof!.
Even with the introduction in the 80s with the V6 engined Alfas, the problems with earlier V6s and associated head gasket problems are well documented. Alfa Romeo Australia , who had a Australian based operation in those days, sent out a delegation to ask Stuart how to rectify this problem.
Stuart Randall has not only been involved with preparing and building class winning Alfa Romeos, but unbe-knownst to many was also involved with the preparation of the Dulux Rally winning Holden XU-1 of Colin Bond in the early 70s while working for Les Vagg.
Even today Randall Perkins philosophy is to provide the expertise necessary to keep your automobile running reliably re-gardless of make, as well as refining and developing performance and handling products for Alfa Romeos.
