The Senkakusha

The Senkakusha are the sister tribe to the Enlightened, a tribe of genetically enhanced human beings. While the Enlightened came away with heightened powers of mind and lived in Tokyo, the Senkakusha came away with heightened powers of soul and spirit and lived in the Australian outback. Each member of the tribe has their souls attached to a certain animal that come to them whenever they need or want it near. The parents give the child only one name that connects them to their animal.
The humans do not chose what animal they are attached to, the animal chooses it�s human by being present at it�s birth, or by showing itself to the newborn and it�s family shortly after. The animal that chose them stays alive for as long as it�s chosen does and they have a telepathic link. The chosen not only has an attachment to the one that chose them, but to all the animals of its chooser�s species. Those who have their animal present during their birth have a much stronger attachment to it than those who�s animal showed up after their birth.

The Senkakusha that work as protectors and helpers of the Senshi are the last remaining of their tribe. The tribe was wiped out by an unknown disease that only a handful walked away from alive. The few survivors scattered, hoping to keep the disease from spreading to the rest of them. Some went to the Enlightened for help, others ran off to other parts of the world.
