| I am pursuing a seat on the Canandaigua Board of Education to assure the best education for our most important investments: the children of our community. I have been truly encouraged by my three greatest investments. Their names are Jeffery, Bethan, and Thomas. I realize I have a tremendous responsibility to the successful growth of our children.
The Canandaigua School Board term is five years. In five years Jeffery who is in fourth grade will have gone through the middle school and be finishing his freshman year at the Academy. Bethan who is currently in first grade will be in the middle school, and Thomas who is two will be in first grade. Our most valuable investments are growing strong and I feel a personal responsibility to help support their progress. I believe my background, education, and experience will be an asset to the Canandaigua community as a member of the Board of Education. I am an active listener and an assertive advocate. I hold a Master of Science in Counseling from SUNY Oswego. I attended graduate school by working in Student Services and then worked as a Residence Hall Director serving 450 college students. I saved my earnings and enjoyed a year of travel through Australia and New Zealand. Upon my return to New York State I became the Guidance Counselor at Sauquoit Valley Middle School in Central NY. In 1999 my husband, Ron, and I chose to buy a home in Canandaigua because of the schools and the community. I have had the pleasure of being a stay-at-home mom for the past ten years. We are pleased to call Canandaigua home as we raise our family. I am committed to common sense and fiscally sound decisions to assure the best education for our children. I am a practical person who tries to understand the purpose behind choices that are made, often weighing wants versus needs. I believe that the Canandaigua School District is predominantly successful. As a school board member I plan to identify and correct or improve upon the district's weaknesses while I support its strengths.. Laura Ouimette |
