Carla finally found true love in Ed Hall. |
Ed Hall made an impression on Carla, one that was so strong that she wound up breaking off her relationship with Bert Skully. Ed, in the meantime, also took a personal interest in young and defiant street urchin Joshua West. Although seeing Ed reach out to Josh made Carla love him all the more, she remained uncertain of whether or not she should become committed to someone who worked in the high stakes field of law enforcement. Unable to stay away from him, Carla ultimately accepted his marriage proposal.
As Ed and Carlas wedding date drew near, several people close to them began receiving anonymous threats. Carla was later shaken when the brakes on her car had been tampered with, resulting in an accident. Josh, meanwhile, began hearing rumors from the streets that someone was looking for payback against Ed for Earls death. After piecing together the clues, officer Vince figured out that Earls brother, Lester Brock (who was an expert mechanic and had been recently released from a mental ward), was behind the disturbing shenanigans.
Claiming to be one of Eds police coworkers, Lester phoned Carlatelling her that Ed wanted her to meet him at the jewelers in a half hour. Carla naively complied, not knowing that in Eds place would be Lester with a riffle. Just as Carla arrived, Lester fired at her. Luckily, she was pushed out of the way by Joe. Believing that he had killed Carla, and ultimately avenged his brothers death, Earl slipped into psychosis. He was seized by Ed and several other police officers, and carted off to an insane asylum.
After the hectic crucible, Ed and Carla followed through with their plans to marry. The ceremony was held in the Craigs garden, with Josh serving as Eds best man. Jazz singer Hazel Scott made an appearance, serenading the bride and groom. Soon after becoming husband and wife, Ed and Carla adopted Joshua.
