The sky was beautiful as she looked up at the stars newly peaking out of hiding since sunset.  The air was cold against her hot skin and her cheeks tingled.  It was pretty snowless for a late December night, only snowing once all winter with barely anything sticking.

The moon showed faintly in the heavens, a strong contrast to the bright and blinding street lamp at the end of her block.  That was the only lamp on her whole dead end block.  Looking down past the lonely light, she peered at the few Christmas lights that where still up and lit.  Not many, but it was enough.

Continuing at the task at hand, she pulled the few papers from the mailbox and headed back up the driveway to the warm, toasty house.  Hopping over a small patch of snow, her sandals would not allow her to do otherwise, she stopped to look up at the moon again one last time before venturing back in the house.  It smiled down on her and she smiled back before opening the door with a gush of hot air.

Her green-sandaled, light-blue-socked foot stepped into the house followed by a pair of baggy red pants and a navy blue, full-length parka.

The warmth of the house hit her rosy cheeks and black-rimmed glasses full blast, fogging up the latter.

"Great," she mumbled, setting down the mail on the kitchen table, "Just great."

Chapter 2
"What's this?" a slender girl with jet-black hair asked sitting down at the table, chewing an apple.

"What does it look like, Rave?" the other shot back, glaring from beneath her glasses playfully as she put the dishes away from their meal a while before.

"It looks like the mail that you were supposed to get when it was still daylight out, Aurora."

"Hey, the mail made it into the house, be thankful," Aurora smiled, her warm brown eyes tinted from the light playing off her candy apple red hair.

Exasperated, Raven threw her hands into the air and left.  Aurora smiled and walked into the living room and plopped down next to Raven on the couch.

"What ya watchin'?" Aurora asked, staring at the TV.

"The Crow."

"And this is the...200th time you've seen this movie this year?"

"256th."

Aurora smiled and walked back into the kitchen.  "Do you want some hot chocolate?  I'm gonna make some."

"Sure."

Aurora grabbed two over-sized mugs down from the shelf and filled them with milk and chocolate syrup.  Walking back into the living room, her hands began to glow bright red and the cups began to steam.  Raven reached her hand out to take the mug when Aurora pulled away.

"They aren't done yet.  And they are really hot, I got carried away."

Seconds later, Aurora set the steaming cups down on the small table beside the couch and sat down, intently watching the movie on the screen.

"Such a shame he had to die.  He could've gone places in Hollywood," Raven said wistfully.

"Don't we have this conversation *every* time we watch this movie?" Aurora questioned jokingly.  She sighed, both of them silently glued to the screen.  "Have you ever wondered why we have our powers? Cuz I know they are *not* made for the use in brewing hot chocolate."

Raven laughed and let out a breath.  She thought about the day that she figured out she had these powers...
