| Jayis, King of the many worlds of Azaran sat staring out one of the ornate windows in his rooms in the palace, his face not revealing any of his gloomy thoughts. He was the ruler over the Worlds; places that people with magic lived on exept for those of Maslein. The only reason he was king was because he has the most power in all the Worlds. That was the tradition and law of the kingdom. It was also necessary to have the strongest people in charge. Throughout his many years in charge of the Worlds, as they were commonly called, he had been looking for his successor. This was the problem that led him to his current state of mind. The Prophecies told that the next ruler (and the last one that had to be looked for) would finally destroy the dark empire and free its people. That was not a sure thing but the next ruler was the only person who could save the Worlds. If she couldnt no one else would ever be able to. The ruler could fail but that was the chance that had to be taken. This ruler was very different though. The Prophecies said that the ruler was to be a girl. That was not strange there had been Queens before. What was strange was when they found her she would not know magic. That bothered many people. All the previous kings and queens had known about their magic since they were born. This fact was made worse by the prophecy that none of her Council would know about their magic until she told them. Magic often took people years to master. Many people wondered how an inexperienced girl was supposed to save them from the Maslein, or what many people called the Dark Worlds.
That was not half of Jayis problem. The prophecies foretold the year when this girl was to be born. That year had come and gone. For over sixteen years, he and the few people that knew it was time, had been searching. The Prophecies said that if she was not found by the time she was eighteen then there would be no hope of saving the Worlds. The Maslein Empire knew some of what was going on. They had prophecies of their own, though not nearly as many or as complex. Five years ago their heir had broken in to the palace and copied some of the Prophecies. Although she did not copy very many she did copy the prophecy that told the year and the world that the Princess was to be born on. Luckily Masleins heir only broke into the chamber that contained well-known prophecies. There were many others. Some, were only known to rulers and their Councils. Others were hidden, only to be read by the Princess and whom she chooses to see them. These facts were now constantly on Jayis mind. Except for the incident five years ago, the Dark Worlds had been fairly quiet. Recently they had become more active. Attacks were more common and they were paying much closer attention to earth which was not surprising, considering that was where the Princess was to be born. Jayis wondered why now? Why not when they first stole the prophecy? Jayis? Jenissa was standing just inside his doorway looking at him intently. She was one of Jayis Council. We may have found something could you come to the seers room? I hope its good news. Replied Jayis. A few minutes later Jayis and Jenissa arrived in the seers room. His Council was assembled there. They all wore a look of hope and fear. Maslein is on the move again. Said Jammal, Jayis, second in command. I think they may have found something. Four of there creatures were sent to earth weve found out where they are going and they are after a girl that fits the description for the Princess but well have to move fast. Said Jammal. Alright Jammal, Ellen and Clara come with me lets see if they found the right girl. Jayis was fighting down excitement. This had never happened before hopefully something good would come out of it. |
