Feel free to go to THE SHOW right now, if you so desire....

I got the venue at my usual time & hung out with the other early arrivals: Kevin, Kim, Jennifer, & Stephanie. Kevin surprised me with a photo of Rick holding up my sign from the night before. Woo hoo! I tried to return the kindness by letting him borrow a shirt to help fight against the cold. The silly boy had only worn a light jacket. I expounded upon the virtues of "layered dressing." :)

We got in & I was pretty much in the same spot (btw/Rick & Robin – next to Kim). Out side Kim had asked me which spot I was going to head for when the doors opened. I asked him if he'd mind terribly if I stood next to him again. Not only do I enjoy chatting with they guy, he's great at pointing out all the choice "Rick moments" I may have missed otherwise.

Before the show began, I noticed that the 2 photographers who’d been there the night before were back again. One of them came over & asked me if I’d stood in the same spot the night before. After cautiously answering, "yes," he informed me that I’d probably be in the paper on Saturday. Without missing a beat, he added that I looked like a "geek" in the shot...

Um... thanks! I explained that I preferred the term "enthusiastic fan." :)

Earlier in the day, I’d made Sven his own Homer Simpson sign. It was a little crude because I didn’t have the right markers, but he seemed very happy with it. He promised to get my Homer sign autographed by the guys... Woo hoo!

THE SHOW

The opening act was Cadillac Voodoo Choir, a local 5 piece band. The lead singer looked like what would happen if Steven Tyler played dress up in Jim Morrison’s closet then sang like the lead dude for Counting Crows... As with George Devroe, I enjoyed them & all, but I was mostly biding time until CT. :)

Random Notes

Rick yelled "I f***ed up!" several times during "Downed" & again afterwards – Robin confessed that he did, too… Robin wasn’t holding back like he had the night before. "Ghost Town" was particularly amazing… I believe it was this night when Rick came down stage at one point & held out a pic to Kim. Later on, Kim told me that he had no idea what he was supposed to do, so he just took it. I thought it was way cool... Before he left the stage, Rick handed Uncle Dick to Kim, as well... I think there’s a sadistic side of Mr. Nielsen that enjoys watching Sven frantically run on stage to find out where the guitar went!

I hafta say that although "In Color" isn’t my favorite CT album – I adored hearing it live. The songs are much better that way. It was a really good energy show. I had a blast.

As we left, we found out that the posters (that were supposed to be for the 3 day pass holders) had all been given out to the first ones out the door. DOH! I consoled myself with the thought that at least I had another CT show to look forward to the next night...

Robin, Phyll, Stephanie, Jennifer, Kevin & I headed for the Denny's not too far from the venue. Fun times had by all... They showed me photos from other shows they'd attended (J & S in particular seem to travel a LOT to see them). We had quite a collection of US dialects at that table - me with my nasal Midwest accent, R & P with their Nawlins drawl, S & J with the Boston thang and Kevin was the Texas representative. :)

After eating, I think Kevin had had enough of us, so he took off while we girls cruised the streets of Austin and hit a bar or two before tiring ourselves out. But not before we took the obligatory "Charlies Angels" photo in front of the gun shop, conviniently located next to one of those bars.

Only in Texas... :P

Peace,

Lisa J.
