Named Passiflora by Catholic priests who found it growing in Latin America sometime around the 16th century.  There are many types and various colors of Passion Flora.

� The ten large petals represent the most faithful of the apostles.
� The fringe above the petals represent the crown of thorns.
� The five stamens were thought to represent the wounds of Christ.
� The pistils are the nails�
� The tendrils are the way the cross was lashed together
� The leaves are symbolic of the spear used to pierce Christ�s side and the                     spots on the underside of the leaf are signs of the 30 pieces of silver.
� The fragrance is the spices prepared by the holy women.
� The roundness of the fruit is the world Christ came to save.
