Ljubomir -
Ljuba Manasijevic
As
a singer, composer and poet, born and raised in Belgrade,
Serbia, Ljuba has dedicated almoust two decades to
Serbian traditional and patriotic music, and is a member
of the musician's Union and Composer's Guild
(S.O.K.O.J.).
Since 1991, he has been performing
concerts of Serbian traditional and patriotic music,
touring Serbia, Serbian lands and serbian communities all
over the world. He is also a recognised international
artist and instructor of serbian music and singing,
performing at International folk festivals in Canada and
the USA.
Since 1993, he dedicates a great part of
his work to a travelling theatre founded along with Mr.
Momir Bradic ( the "Bard of the Theatrics" in
the town of Kruchevac and Serbia), performing historical
Serbian quotes and speeches, set to his own musical
compositions, and partaking as a Serbian Minstrel (Melod
and pojac).
His first patriotic song,
"Freedom", written in 1979, lead to him writing
many more, one of which "Rise Up serbia",
composed in 1989, based on the words of the poet, Dositej
Obradovic, from the 1990 cassete of the same name, has
been performed by the author and many choirs and enjoys
long lasting popularity with Serbians the world over.
1992 saw him release another cassete of
serbian patriotic music "Fatherland - serbia",
in an effort to lift the nations spirits during the war
that occurred 1991 - 1992.
The CD and cassete "Above the East
and West", is the result of five years work and
rediscovers Serbian Medieval music, filling the void left
by the lost Serbian ballads throughout the centuries.
"Above the East and West" brings the wonderful
spirit of the Nemanjic's courts and feelings of
greatness.
Several ballads have already taken their
places at Serbian cultural events in Despotovac,
Kraljevo, and Stalac, where they have been performed
every year, and by the beauty of the medieval sound, have
captured many listener's.
