Miss Barb Hameister
Our Elementary Music Teacher
We are so very fortunate to have a lady like Barb Hameister working in our district. I feel fortunate to have met and grown to know this outstanding person.

Barb was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 4, 1948. Her father worked for TWA so they traveled a lot. They vacationed at Lakeside. Barbs mother worked in book sales and at the library. This must explain why Barb loves to travel and read.

Barb is a graduate of Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky. She completed her Bachelors Degree in 1970. She has worked as a clerk at a grocery store, camp counselor, during the summers, and substitute taught in Lexington, Kentucky.

Barb got her first full-time teaching job in January of 1971 in Grant County, Kentucky. There she taught in 6 buildings, (music), grades 1-8 and assisted in the High School Band. She continued to work summers on her Masters Degree.

Barb came to our district in the fall of 1974 and continues to work for us now.

Barb enjoys traveling and has been in 49 of the our 50 States. She told me that she needed to pick up  Hawaii. She has also visited the countries of Greece, Italy, England and Canada.

Barb loves to mess around outside. She goes hiking, bird watching, and camping. One of her greatest pleasures in life is to mess about with boats, on the Rivers of America. Especially steamboats. She has taken 29 cruises on the Delta Queen, MQ-3-AQ-2. She has even played calliope on the Belle of Louisville for Tall Stacks. She served as 1st vice president program chairperson of the Middle Ohio River Chapter. She is also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer River men . Barb is extremely active in our community and church. She is our vice president of our Historical Society, sings a lot in the church choir, plays hand bells, flute in community band, and is a member of the Emmaus Community. She worked 11 years with the Girl Scouts. Barb enjoys crafts, drawing, painting, reading, and gardening at her cottage on the Ohio River which she designed and had built in 1997-1998. Barb has two cats, Patches and Moses.

We are so fortunate to have such an outstanding person working with us in our schools, church and community. The students love and respect her and that, in itself, tells us that she is a wonderful teacher.

I have learned a lot just by listening to this outstanding lady. I salute you, Miss Barb Hamiester, for being one of the most outstanding persons that Ive had the pleasure of knowing.

I need to add what happened yesterday. We were busy in our classroom, with our monthly art project. I knew that with the afternoon's assembly, we wouldn't have time to finish our project, nor would the children be able to have their snack time or recess. Therefore, I asked if they would like to skip music, just for today, so that we could include these fun activities. Their reactions were, "No, we can't miss music!"
This shows you how much the students treasure their time with Miss Hameister.
