6TH GRADE MATHLETES
Sixth-grade students take a qualifying test  to earn the opportunity to enhance and extend their achievement in Mathematics.  The team of students will devote time to going well beyond the basics and practice logical reasoning, problem solving, and difficult calculations.  We participate in various contests from October through March.

For the School Year 2000-2001, two Fairbanks students placed in the top 100 for 1,990 students nation-wide.  As a school, Fairbanks placed 37th in the top 100 schools taking the tests for the Mathfax competition.  Several students also received awards for the Mathematical Olympiads and the American Mathematics Competition in the School Year 2000-2001 and in 2001-2002.   In 2002, one student scored in the Honors Division for the American Mathematics Competition, and the team score was in the Honorable Mention Divison.  We have not been able to participate in the Arizona State Regional competition for the last three years because there has not been a sponsor for our region, and we are not allowed to compete out of our region.

The team for the School Year 2002-2003 also did very well.  Kinsey Skinner was the top scorer in the Mathfax competition.  Ben Menges was the top scorer in the Mathematical Olympiads competition.  Ariana Aguilera was our top scorer in the American Mathematics Competition.

The Mathletes for 2003-2004 received the highest award yet.  2004 Division E Champions!
The team competed with approximately 100 other schools to attain  this honor.  Lukas Menges placed 1st, and Charles Torres placed second on our team.
Lukas and Charles both placed in the top 100 of all students who participated.

The Mathletes for 2004-2005 were also successful.  Fairbanks Elementary School placed 25th out of 75 schools participating.  Carl Vanderpool placed in the top 100 of the 1,778 students who participated.

The team members for this school year are:  Daniel Miranda, Andy Obregon, Jessica Puleston, Tyler Nicolds, Tyler Anderson, Brooke Pollock,  Katie Worley, Aubrey Anderson, Jason Sandoval, and Felicia Zerwas.
