Hans married Marie Olsdatter.

2.  Hansine Marie Høst (Hans Julius 1) was born on 28 Sep 1855 in Sarpsborg, Norway,1 was christened on 6 Apr 1856 in Tune, Ostfold, Norway, died on 19 Mar 1912 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 56,2 and was buried on 22 Mar 1912 in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.2  The cause of her death was pneumonia. 

 

General Notes: 1900 Norway Census lists Marie living as a widow with 4 children, Martha was already living on her own.  Marie was listed as a Cleaning woman. Their address was 0301 Teglværks Gade 7, in Kristiania.

According to records at the Salvation Army Central Territorial Headquarters in Des Plaines IL, Marie was assisted by Marie Edahl and her family on coming over to the USA.

Jenni married Christian Blickus on 13 Aug 1910 in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois 3542561. 

 

Jenni next married Olaf P. Nelsson on 4 Mar 1922 in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois. 

 

          6   M    iv.  Simon Oscar Simonsen was born in 1890 in Kristiania, Norway, died on 1 Nov 1913 in Cook County Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 23,4 and was buried on 4 Nov 1913 in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  The cause of his death was pulmonary Tuberculosis. 

 

He never married.

 

          7   M     v.  Carl August Simonsen was born on 23 Jul 1892 in Kristiania, Norway, died on 26 Dec 1913 in Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at age 21,5 and was buried on 29 Dec 1913 in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  The cause of his death was pulmonary Tuberculosis.

3.  Martha Christine Simonsen (Hansine Marie Høst 2, Hans Julius 1) was born on 20 Mar 1880 in Kristiania, Oslo, Norway, died on 9 May 1957 in Illinois, at age 77,3 and was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. 

 

General Notes: Martha was a captain in the Salvation Army, stationed in the land of the midnight sun, (Norway?)

She went to college in Norway and then came to USA. married a commoner in Sal. Army and lost her rank, and became an ensign.  She was reduced in rank because of marrying Gustav.

Came over at age 25, Left Nroway and traveled by ship Kong Ring on Sat April 29 1905 to Hamburg Germany, From Kristiania, Norway, She then boarded the Hamburg American Line on the SS Moltke arriving in New York on 12 June 1905

1900 Norwegian census shows Martha Simonsen single an a Lieutenant in the Salvation Army  living with Marie Edahl born  in 1880 in Voss Sogn, a Captain in the Sal. Army

Martha came over to the US on June 12, 1905, aboard the Hamburg line ship the SS Moltke. FHL film # 1399272 Page 59 Line 5

Passage paid for by her mother Marie Simonsen of Chicago, IL, She had no job, but could read and write. Her nationally was Norwegian and race listed as Scandnavian, Last residence was Christiania, final destination Chicago to Wabansia Street She had never been here before and had $45.00

According to records at the Salvation Army Central Territorial Headquarters in Des Plaines IL Martha was an officer in the Salvation Army in Norway.  Resigning on May 15, 1905 to come to America.  She stated that she came to American because her mother wanted her to come. in April 1906 she applied to be reinstated as an oficer.  That record showed that she stated she had been stationed at 10 different corps (Churches) in Norway as a Lieutenant.  However it also shows that she was promoted tp Lieutenant upon her reacceptance on March 8,1906 (these dates do not fit as this happened before they stated she reapplied) She was appointed as solicitor to the Provincial Headquaters of the Scandinavian Dept. in Chicago, to the Chicago, Andersonviller Corps and back to headquarters.  She was promoted to Captain July 3 1906, She resigned on November 10, 1908 stating ill health and needing to care for her mother.

IN a coorspondence dated April 1943 it shows she was living at 779 Cortland Street (now 3410 W), Chicago.  In October 1908 Martha was living at 1107 Wabansia Ave.(now 3316 W.) Chgo.

 

Martha married Johan August Isaksson, son of Olof Eriksson Flodberg and Brita Olsdotter, on 20 Jun 1909 in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois #510512.  (See below for more on Johan August Isaksson)

Myrtle married Arne Stendahl Larsen, son of Unknown and Unknown, on 23 May 1933.

Lutheran Church, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, died on 30 Sep 1994 in Grand Island, Florida, at age 81, and was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

5.  Jenni Simonsen (Hansine Marie Høst 2, Hans Julius 1) was born on 16 Aug 1887 in Kristiania, Norway, died on 17 Feb 1972 in Chicago, Cook Co, Illinois, at age 84, and was buried on 19 Feb 1972 in Mt. Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Olive Cemetery Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  The cause of his death was nephritis.  Another name for Johan was Johan Isaakson. 

 

General Notes: The story is that he was born a Larsen but they couldn't afford to raise him so let him be adopted.

His father was a shoemaker.

Father died, mother remarried and stepfather adopted him. There is no proof on this yet.

The family name Isaksson was listed as such in the 1910 census and by 1920 it was listed as Isaksen—and his place of birth changed from Sweden to Norway.
