First Generation

 

1.  Della May Averitt, daughter of J. Edward Averitt and Ida May Daughtery, was born on 7 Nov 1898 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, died on 20 Jun 1941 in Tucson, Pima County, AZ, at age 42, and was buried on 23 Jun 1941 in Evergreen Mortuary Cemetery & Memorial Park, Tucson, Pima County, AZ.  The cause of her death was gun shot wound to the head, self inflicted. 

 

General Notes: Della was born in Paducah KY in 1899.  According to her son, she was raised in an orphanage there.  After his parents divorced, he remembers going down to KY to see the orphanage she was raised in.

"TUCSONAN'S DEATH DECLARED SUICIDE"

Mrs. Virgil M. Scott, 40, died at her home, 501 East Bryant Street yesterday from gunshot wounds which C. W. Gardner, coroner, said were self inflicted. She had been in ill health for some time.

Police say that she was alone at the time, her husband having gone across the street to a nearby grocery store. Coroner Gardner pronounced the case suicide and said that no inquest will be held.

Mrs. Scott was the wife of Virgil M. Scott, former public utility employee, who was home on furlough from Camp Barkeley, where he is serving in the army. She also leaves a daughter, Faye Yvonne, 4-1/2 months old, and a son by a pervious marriage, Fred Hendrickson, 22, Chicago. She was a member of the Happy Day column of The Arizona Daily Star.

Funeral services will be announced later by Reilly Undertaking Company.

 

"SCOTT SERVICE IS PLANNED MONDAY"

Funeral services for Mrs. Della Scott, 40, who died Friday morning at her home, 501 East Bryant Street, will be conducted at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the chapel of the Reilly Undertaking Company. Rev. R. Earl Dicus will officiate and Mrs. L. A. Lohse will be in charge of the music. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Scott leaves a husband, Virgil Scott; and adopted daughter, Faye Yvonne Scott; and a son Fred Hendrickson of Chicago. Her husband is serving in the U. S. Army at Camp Barkeley, Abilene, Texas.  Mrs. Scott came to Tucson from Chicago about two months ago.

 

Notes from her son, List that Della's foster parents were William  & Alice Greene of Hwy 371, Pine River, MN. Orphanage records stated that Della left the home in 1917 with a Mrs. Alice Ward Greene, first for Chicago and then to Pine River MN.

 

Della married Adolph Jacob Hendrickson, son of Charles Jacob Hendrickson and Johanna Frederikka Pedersdatter, on 26 Apr 1919 in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota.  The marriage ended in divorce in 1922. 

 

Marriage Notes: The record is found in Book I, page 609 of marriages.

Adolph was a minor so he got verbal consent to marry from his mother Hannah

Hendrickson.  The couple was married on 26 April 1919 in Brainerd by Pastor

Elof G. Carlson, a Lutheran pastor, in the presence of Mrs. John

Hendrickson, Harold C. Erickson, Laura Wilmar, and Alton J. Fox.

Della next married Virgil M. Scott after 1938.

2.  J. Edward Averitt was born in 1870 in Tennessee. 

 

J. married Ida May Daughtery on 3 Aug 1894 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.

3.  Ida May Daughtery, daughter of Jesse G. Daughtery and Mary, was born in May 1876 in Kentucky. 

 

Ida married J. Edward Averitt on 3 Aug 1894 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.

6.  Jesse G. Daughtery, son of Samuel Daughtery and Elizabeth, was born in 1845 in Tennessee. 

 

Jesse married Unknown before 1869.
