NOTES

VOCABULARY

Kiu is used for both who and which (one), depending on the sentence.

GRAMMAR

You have learned that singular nouns (persons, places, things, etc.) end in -O and plural nouns end in -OJ.  The words used to describe nouns are called adjectives.  In Esperanto, these words always end in -A and also pluralize with -AJ when the noun they are describing is plural.  Notice the following pattern:

singular ( ___ a  ___ o ) plural ( ___ aj  ___ oj )
bela birdo belaj birdoj
g^oja aktoro g^ojaj aktoroj
granda elefanto grandaj elefantoj

Kiu also takes the plural ending -J when required.

Esperanto English
Kiuj katoj estas g^ojaj? Which cats are happy?
Kiuj estas grandaj? Which ones are big?
