One of my favorite hobbies is bellydancing! I discovered Fat Chance Belly Dance in San Francisco and took about 2 weeks of classes before we moved to Colorado Springs.
At some point in Colorado Springs, I learned of a bellydance teacher named Mahisha, who taught at downtown dance academy. She is an *excellent* teacher, and helped me come to really love bellydancing with a passion!
I took a break from bellydance for the last year before we moved to Kansas, and there were no bellydance instructors nearby, so I took Tai Chi classes instead. Then when we moved here, to Seoul, South Korea, I discovered there was a bellydance academy downtown called Bellydance Korea!
After one of the classes, a teacher, Jisook Han, approached me and asked me if I might be willing to help her establish a bellydance class on the Yongsan military base, and I eagerly accepted!
It took two months of work developing advertising, putting up flyers, arranging for exhibition performances, and telling everyone I saw about the classes. Finally, we are starting the classes (two per week) on Sunday, February 29, and the Field House is allowing us a one-month trial run to see how popular the classes are. If they're well received, they will set up a contract with Jisook and make the classes a permanent part of their fitness program. Wish us luck! |
