| I tell you now, i hadn't even heard of this band until 'weathered' came along, and after buying and listening to this album, i'm mighty glad i did hear of them. I haven't heard any of their previous albums, but if its anything like this, i'm getting them. The album starts with a fairly heavy rock track 'bullets', which i'm guessing from the lyric content was written when Scott Stamp felt pissed of at the world for some reason, don't know what, there are so many,(reasons to be pissed off) The album continues with the heavy rock theme in 'freedom fighter', but thankfully, calms down a little in 'who's got my back?', which is a very melodic track. The way it starts with a 'cherokee indian prayer' gives it that haunting sound about it, especially when the echoing/reverbing guitar comes in after it(the prayer). Scott Stamp makes the track ever better by providing the decent lyrics and rock vocals. It then builds up more , climaxing in lots of rock guitar riffs and Scott trying to scream out the lyrics,it then, almost suddenly, calms down, and ends with the cherokee indian prayer. Unless you haven't guessed already thats my favourite track on the whole album. It then goes back in to heavy rock mode in 'signs' which is quite good, though i felt something was missing from it, i dunno, more background instruments, who knows. 'One last breath', very easy track to chill out to, and make you think about your own mortality, which is what Scott Stamp seems to be singing about, its not brilliant, but its good, the tune is distinctive. The same can be said for 'my sacrifice' , which is good, but thanks to MTV and radio, the tunes been overkilled, i still like it though, because of the guitar riffs in it mainly, and the lyrics, again having some genuine thought behind them. Lets see, time to sum up now i think, the rest of the tracks on the album, like 'stand here with me' and 'weathered' are good, but after tracks like 'my sacrifice' and 'one last breath' aren't quite up to scratch to the rest of the album. But overall, i think i'll be generous, - 4 out of 5. |
