| [ The Morning of Valentines Fray Dallas, Texas The sky is clear and the sun is shining. Standing on the porch of an older, white house watching a young boy play on a swing set in the front yard that is surrounded by a chain link fence is a man standing 6'2" about 230 pounds wearing a brown, sheepskin wool jacket, jeans and work boots. The front door opens and out walks another man standing 6'5", weighing about 270 who is wearing a black New Legend t-shirt, blue jeans and Nike running shoes. He is drinking a can of Pepsi. In his other hand, He carries a Diet Coke which he hands to the older man who pops the top on the can and takes a drink. As the two men stand together watching the little boy play, LJ turns to the older man and speaks.]
LJ: How you feeling, Dad? Is there anything you need or anything I can do to help?
[The older man, Larry Black Sr., reaches over, placing his hand on his son's shoulder. He looks him squarely in the eyes, a firm look of determination on his face. He turns back and looks at the little boy playing in the front yard. Watching his grandson Nicholas play, he breaks out in a smile.]
Dad: I remember when you kids used to play football out in this very same yard while your grandfather, uncle and myself sat in the house watching the Cowboys game and playing dominoes while the ladies prepared dinner. I used to dream of one of my boys making it big in the NFL or pro wrestling, the two biggest sports in Texas and look at you now. Not only do you run your own multi-million dollar business, you have a shot at the GDW Terror TV Title tonight At Valentines Fray.
[LJ takes a long drink of his Pepsi and looks down at his feet, just staring at his shoes before raising his head and looking his dad dead in the eyes with a look so intense, it could burn through steel.]
Dad: NO.
[LJ 's heart sinks at his fathers words as he looks away, not having the words to speak. He looks out at his nephew, remembering himself at that age and wondering what he did so wrong as to not have his father's approval. At that moment, his father speaks up.]
Dad: I am proud of what you have done as a business man, but if you want me to be proud of you as a wrestler, then you go out there tonight and win the GDW Terror Title.
LJ: I promise you Dad, I will give it my all. Laivindil Rayne will not know what hit him.
[Larry Sr. takes a drink of his drink and smiles.]
Dad: Just be careful, son Laivindil will not give up that title with out a fight. When a man holds something as valuable as championship gold he will fight as hard to hold on to that as he will for his women. all I can say is take him apart, son.
LJ: I plan to do just that. I have one thing on my side - I am young and hungry. Laivindil may have the experience, but I am the more hungry.
Dad: I really am proud of you and Trin both. Plus you will be giving me another Grandchild, any thoughts on a name?
LJ: I Like Nathan and Trin likes Shane if it is a boy. For a girl maybe Rachel or Stephanie.
Dad: Just like young parents can not agree on anything when it comes to their children.
[Nicholas comes running up and stands next to the two men looking up at his grandfather and uncle.]
Nicholas: Uncle LJ, did you hear I get to stay home from school and fly in your jet to go see you Wrestle.
LJ: I Know I told the principle and your teacher I would beat them up if they did not let you go.
Nicholas: some boys at school said you are mean and scary. I told them Hell yeah he is he beats up anyone who gets in his way.
[The two men look down at the nine year old boy. Both have a quizzical look on their face.]
Nicholas: What you are going to beat Laivindil Rayne arent you uncle LJ?
LJ: Yes I am, now where did you learn to talk like that?
Nicholas: Television.
Dad: That is my Grandson.
[The two men Laugh as LJ picks up his nephew and puts him on his shoulders. Following his father inside the house as the scene fades to black.] |
